About The Position

Caterpillar is hiring a Jr. Machinist to set up and operate machine tools, handle parts and tooling, and inspect products throughout the machining process. The role involves reading programs and mechanical drawings, monitoring cutting tools, making machine adjustments, and maintaining a clean and orderly work area. Candidates should be motivated to work daily and weekend overtime. Available schedules include first shift Monday–Friday, second shift Monday–Thursday, and Special Work Week shift Friday–Sunday. Second shift includes a $3-per-hour differential, and Special Work Week shift includes a $2-per-hour differential, both in addition to base pay. The listed pay range is $22.63–$33.95. Employment offers are conditioned on successful completion of a drug screen.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Experience working in a production and/or manufacturing environment.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
Ability to work second shift Monday–Thursday (4:00 PM–2:30 AM) or Special Work Week shift Friday–Sunday (4:00 AM–4:30 PM).

Responsibilities

Set up and tear down machine tools, including loading and unloading jaws, fixtures, and tooling as needed.
Download programs from the central database.
Read and understand programs to better understand the machining process.
Load and unload parts from machines.
Use measuring equipment to frequently inspect in-process and finished products and control quality, including micrometers, calipers, Pi tapes, and rail gauges.
Monitor cutting tools and make adjustments, machine offsets, and insert indexing or replacement as needed.
Make tooling changes to improve the process.
Keep the immediate work area clean and orderly.
