About The Position

As a Jr-level mechanical designer, you will support the design and development of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems for industrial and government facilities, including nuclear and DOE projects. Working under the supervision of Senior Designers and Mechanical Engineers, this role contributes to the development of construction‑level design deliverables that meet project, quality, and safety requirements. This role is ideal for an early‑career designer who is building technical skills in CAD and plant design tools, enjoys collaborative work, and is eager to grow within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Associate Degree in Drafting, Design, or Engineering Technology preferred)
  • 0 to 5 years of experience in mechanical design for industrial or government facilities
  • Experience with HVAC, piping, and plumbing layout design
  • Working knowledge of 3D design software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation
  • Ability to learn new software tools, workflows, and design standards
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to accept technical guidance and feedback
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team‑based environment
  • U.S. Citizenship required (no dual citizenship)
  • Valid driver's license is required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background investigation and drug screening
  • Willingness to work overtime or outside normal hours as needed
  • Professional appearance appropriate for a customer‑facing engine

Nice To Haves

  • Prior nuclear, DOE, or high‑hazard facility design experience
  • Experience working under a formal quality program (ISO 9001, NQA 1)
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary design teams
  • Demonstrated interest in professional growth and technical development

Responsibilities

  • Develop 2D drawings for HVAC equipment, ductwork, piping, and plumbing systems using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar tools
  • Prepare design deliverables under supervision, including: Equipment layouts, Duct and piping plans, Isometric drawings, Sections, and details
  • Incorporate engineer and senior designer markups and redlines into accurate drawings
  • Coordinate designs with mechanical engineers and other disciplines (structural, electrical, process, I&C)
  • Ensure proper integration of mechanical designs with other disciplines
  • Apply established design standards, procedures, and quality requirements
  • Perform self‑checks and support revisions to drawings as directed
  • Participate in field walkdowns or site coordination activities when needed
