About The Position

The Utah Department of Corrections is looking for a Journey Maintenance/Carpenter to perform repairs and complete jobs in various trades including woodworking/cabinetry, drywall repair, painting, flooring, roof repair, windows, and overhead doors. The role involves operating, maintaining, calibrating, and adjusting specialized equipment, as well as troubleshooting and performing preventative maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and machinery. The position requires maintaining accurate records and logs. Carpentry duties may also include grounds work such as mowing and snow removal. The role may be subject to 24/7 emergency call-out. This position is not public safety certified and does not require peace officer status or certification.

Requirements

  • Maintain and/or repair tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of facilities operations, maintenance, and management.
  • Ability to speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally.
  • Ability to arrange, coordinate, or schedule time and details related to agency objectives, organization, structure and mission.
  • Ability to operate, maneuver, navigate, or drive vehicles or mechanized equipment.
  • Ability to find, gather and collect information or data.
  • Ability to operate applicable specialized equipment.
  • Ability to establish, organize and/or maintain files.
  • Valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).

Responsibilities

  • Make repairs to or complete jobs in woodworking/cabinetry, drywall repair, painting, flooring (commercial carpet squares and tiles), roof repair, windows, and overhead doors.
  • Operate, maintain, calibrate, and adjust specialized equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems, make adjustments, repairs, and/or perform preventative maintenance on vehicles, equipment, machinery, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs.
  • Perform carpentry duties, which could also include helping with grounds work including mowing and snow removal.
  • May be subject to 24/7 emergency call out.
