About The Position

Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada (VOA-NCNN) is a large provider of social services in the region, operating over 40 programs. The organization's mission is to change individual lives, instill hope, increase self-worth, and facilitate independence through quality housing, employment, and supportive services. VOA-NCNN is recruiting for a full-time Job Developer for its Subsidized Employment Program (SEP) located in Mather, California. This role is crucial for engaging with local employers to develop and maintain relationships that promote the hiring of SEP participants while meeting employer business needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with businesses as it relates to recruiting for employment and/or performing related marketing.
  • Minimum of 2 years working with disadvantaged populations.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment referral sources.
  • Ability to establish relationships/new resources for employment.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines.
  • Must have the flexibility to work irregular hours.
  • Must have the willingness to function as a team member with the ability to make skillful independent decisions.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer Skills (Microsoft, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to de-escalate crisis situations.
  • Ability to advocate for special needs clients.
  • Organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with local employers to develop and maintain ongoing mutually beneficial relationships that promote the hiring of SEP participants, while meeting the business needs of the employer.
  • Establish and cultivate relationships with local businesses within targeted industry sectors and community organizations appropriate to SEP program participants.
  • Develop mutually beneficial partnerships and secure subsidized employment opportunities for SEP program participants.
  • Attend local networking events, including chamber of commerce events, business alliances, merchant associations, and local community events.
  • Host hiring and networking events, employer spotlights, job fairs, and other employer engagement opportunities.
  • Provide all documentation required by funding source and Volunteers of America.
  • Work with SEP DHA Liaison in matching clients to appropriate businesses for interviews and possible placement.
  • Update database of employers and client referrals.
  • Create a system to support the growth and industry needs of open positions in the region.
  • Work intently with the small business community to market and create a job pipeline for SEP participants.
  • Collect W-9, contract, job descriptions, wages, and business license of local businesses.
  • Validate that businesses have been operational for at least two years and have at least 3 employees.
  • Attend DHA quarterly meetings.
  • Attend daily orientation and connect with job prospects post-orientation.
  • Work with community-based organizations, schools, and community partners to establish relationships with potential clients and business partners.
  • Meet monthly placement goals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by program supervisor.
  • Continually learn and enhance technical skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Continually improve interpersonal skills.
  • Attend staff meetings and assigned training, and complete required certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid).
  • Attend all trainings and collaborative meetings necessary for the development of employment resources.
  • Attend job developer trainings, seminars, and community events for job development growth.
  • Expand and enlarge the regional footprint in needs of SEP participants to businesses in their local area.
  • Serve as a member of the program development team by providing information and support for the development of quality operations.
  • Create new and creative ways to meet the needs of participants and small businesses in the region with marketing and networking.
  • Maintain an above-average working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards to assure a safe work environment for clients and all personnel.
  • Support DHA liaison and VOA retention team to ensure successful placement with businesses and clients.
  • Deliver reimbursement checks and follow up with job leads and retention support.
  • Work with local chambers of commerce, networking groups, SBA, WIC, SETA to best understand needs, trends, and processes to access businesses looking for employees.
  • Strategically implement a process to market to the small business community and agencies in the region.
  • Work with community NGOs to support their hiring needs and community partnerships.
  • Build a database of businesses to expand and enlarge the SEP footprint in the region.
  • Create a business plan to collaborate with other VOA job developers to create an employment pipeline for VOA Clients.
