About The Position

The YMCA is seeking a dedicated and experienced Job Coach/Job Developer to join their team. This role involves providing essential support to individuals by assisting them in clarifying their needs and establishing both short-term and long-term objectives. By developing service plans tailored to each individual, you will guide them through the necessary steps to conduct an effective job search and ultimately meet their employment goals. Previous experience in job placements/matching and sales would be a valuable asset. As a Job Coach, you will actively promote the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and its Employment Service, upholding the programs' positive image and serving the community with integrity. Additionally, your expertise in the local, regional, and provincial labor markets will enable you to effectively match job seekers with suitable employers. This is a contract position filling a leave for 12 months, and it is an in-person role in Midland, Ontario.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in social services, career counselling, education, or other related field preferred
  • Knowledge about all aspects of the Employment Service program and the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka as a whole
  • Experience working in an environment where service is being provided to the public, and experience delivering outstanding customer service
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the job search process, including new and evolving methods of self-promotion used by job seekers
  • Knowledge of major online job information and career guidance sources for all major industries and vocations
  • 2 years experience coaching/developing people, either one-on-one and/or in a large group setting
  • Proficient in CaMS (Case Management Solution) or other system, which supports the delivery of client and employer information, is an asset
  • Proficient in Outlook, MS Word, Power Point, Access, Excel, the internet, and comfortable with new and evolving technologies and social media
  • Superior facilitation skills with understanding of principles of learning for both youth and adults
  • Ability to problem solve, work independently and as part of a team and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times and manage crisis situations
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge working with diverse groups and youth at risk
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Commitment to demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving the membership, facility users and all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
  • A high level of professionalism within the guidelines set forth for the Employment Service
  • Updated CPR certification
  • Class G license and access to a vehicle
  • Willingness to participate in mandated training to be completed before or shortly after commencement of work including: AODA Training, Health & Safety Awareness Training, Bill 168 (Violence & Harassment in the Workplace) Training, PCI Compliance, WHMIS, Child Safeguarding Orientation
  • Police Records Check and employment reference checks

Responsibilities

  • Explore, identify, and clarify client interests, abilities, skills, education, and experience in relation to short and long-term career and employment goals
  • Assess eligibility and suitability of participants for Employment Service programs and services, as determined by service guidelines, providing appropriate, accurate, and specified documentation
  • Administer and interpret tests to determine interests and skills of customers on a casual basis
  • Make referrals and assist participants in accessing other services, including education and training opportunities, to best achieve their employment goals
  • Assess clients' motivation, dependability, and reliability to establish client eligibility for assisted services
  • Monitor, follow up, and provide support and guidance to all clients throughout the pre-employment cycle
  • Meet or exceed an annually determined quota of "closed" assisted service clients while ensuring quality client/customer service
  • Prepare job search tools such as cover letters and resumes and make appropriate recommendations to encourage a professional outcome
  • Contact potential employers to facilitate the development of job placements and other employment-related about local employers, their businesses, and their hiring preferences
  • Enable optimal job matches and explore non-traditional avenues for customers to access the labor market, such as job shadowing and mentorship
  • Determine possible job placements and employment-related opportunity matches that align with a client's abilities, transferable skills, and limitations
  • Initiate, coordinate, and conduct marketing and outreach activities to community agencies, organizations, and employers
  • Actively participate in business community events to foster and maintain high visibility for the Employment Service and its services
  • Market clients to appropriate employers and positions
  • Develop placement agreements and track job development activities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers in various industries to ensure successful employment outcomes for participants
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge
  • Be an active participant in Employment Service tri-site initiatives
  • Develop and conduct job search/employment related workshops, information sessions, and other workshops as needed for job seekers and the employer community
  • Maintain updated knowledge of local, regional, and broader labor market information and know how to access in-depth information as required
  • Identify and develop tools to help customers understand the changing labor market and its impact on the job search process
  • Conduct and support itinerant services, representing the Employment Service and the YMCA in remote communities
  • Complete, update, and prioritize all required paperwork, case notes, and documentation in a timely manner, including CaMS and ESCases documentation following YMCA privacy and confidentiality standards
  • Multitask and adapt to evolving government directives
  • Observe changing needs within existing services and seek creative new opportunities to expand them
  • Work independently while maintaining team cohesion
  • Represent Employment Services and the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka in accordance with the YMCA personnel policy
  • Understand the Performance Management model and the Service Quality Standard, consistently meeting, maintaining, and exceeding that standard
