About The Position

Goodwill Greater New York and Northern New Jersey (GWNYNJ) is seeking an experienced Job Developer to join their dedicated team. This role focuses on working with persons with disabilities (PWD) through a process called Customized Employment. The Job Developer will guide individuals through a "Discovery" process, including internships and interviews, to understand their interests and aptitudes for a successful job match. The position involves managing a caseload of PWD, placing them in competitive jobs, and maintaining a network of employers for internships and hiring. Responsibilities include following up with employers, funding sources, and parents, and supporting individuals with on-site coaching when necessary.

Requirements

  • High school or GED required at minimum; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • 2 years’ experience working with persons with disabilities.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain employer relationships with business and industry, with a particular focus on employers providing employment opportunities in various fields.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong presentation and networking skills.
  • Must be able to work with a difficult population and defuse tense situations.
  • Must be a team player and have a strong work ethic.
  • Must be flexible, open to new ideas, creative, and energetic.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize competing demands.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT).
  • Field-based position, must be able to travel to multiple sites daily.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Job Developer and/or Sales Marketing or related field a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the Discovery process and completing the Discovery Report within an average of 90 days.
  • Developing community-based sites for limited-time internships across various career explorations (e.g., Pharmacy, clothing, big box stores, food establishments).
  • Placing 25 individuals per year.
  • Developing appropriate resumes for consumers.
  • Assisting individuals with filling out paper and/or online applications when necessary.
  • Maintaining relationships with existing employers.
  • Developing new employer accounts.
  • Assisting consumers in finding, getting, and keeping jobs.
  • Performing "job matching" based on a participant’s experience, temperament, and stated work settings and goals.
  • Marketing and setting up on-site job coaching for consumers when applicable.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of Social Security work incentives and their impact on disability benefits.
  • Calculating and explaining SSI & SSDI benefits plans to clients.
  • Educating employers on relevant program and placement issues, including disability issues, ADA issues, tax credits, and job modifications.
  • Managing required paperwork, including case notes and billing materials, as per funding source requirements.
  • Establishing relationships with businesses interested in customized workplace training.
  • Providing participants with job search services, including resume writing and interview preparation.
  • Maintaining an online log through CMIS of all services provided to participants daily.
  • Ensuring complete, accurate, and timely submission of all job orders, referrals, follow-ups, and verifications.
  • Serving as a role model for participants.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Job Developer Supervisor and/or Management.
  • Maintaining and ensuring HIPAA confidentiality of records daily.
  • Activities are subject to change/addition to meet business needs with management approval.
