Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, preferably in Education; current teaching credential required
  • Minimum 3 years teaching experience with a focus on reading, writing, math, and science
  • Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate for students at the respective grade level
  • Strong understanding of scope and sequence to keep the class moving forward during teacher absences
  • Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals
  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines
  • Ability to manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students
  • Strong computer skills
  • Engaging, energetic, and patient when working with students in a school setting

Responsibilities

  • Teach lesson plans and instructions as directed by the absent teacher, or in consultation with the Head of Integrative Programs if a lesson plan is not provided
  • Maintain a respectful and orderly classroom, and follow classroom and school procedures as directed by the School; Organize students for effective instruction
  • Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff in accordance with School policies.
  • Contribute to student learning, growth, and advancement of the curriculum plan
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn and convey a variety of subject matters quickly, while adhering to School processes and protocols
  • Maintain a positive mindset toward student learning, teaching practice, and professional development
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the Head of Integrative Programs as soon as is reasonably possible
  • Leave notes for the regular teacher at the end of the teaching day
  • Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards parents, students, and administrators
  • Keep records on attendance, accidents, and incidents
  • Ensure the safety of students at all times
  • Facilitate problem-solving
  • Serve as a role model to students
  • Perform other duties as assigned
