About The Position

The JJYS Technician II - Cache Valley Youth Center role involves working closely with youth ordered into the care and custody of JJYS. Responsibilities include monitoring visitors and residents, scheduling and coordinating activities, assisting the Control Supervisor with perimeter checks, and resolving potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and the public. New hires will participate in a one-week New Employee Training within the first 90 days, covering principles and practices of working with youth and families, as well as a one-week verbal and physical de-escalation training to equip them with skills for working with youth exhibiting challenging behaviors. The role also includes transporting youth and providing a continuum of intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety. Effective communication, both written and verbal, is essential.

Requirements

  • Availability to work rotating shifts, days, swing, graveyard, weekends and holidays.
  • High risks in this job include physical intervention with clients in order to de-escalate hostile or volatile situations.
  • Work requires physical exertion and requires the ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with youth ordered into the care and custody of JJYS
  • Monitor visitors and residents within the facility
  • Schedule and coordinate activities for the youth
  • Assist the Control Supervisor by making perimeter checks
  • Resolve potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and or the public by applying appropriate intervention techniques to people, facilities and property
  • Participate in one week of New Employee Training to introduce you to principles and practices used in our work with youth and families.
  • Participate in one week of verbal and physical de-escalation training to provide skills that will help you work with youth with challenging behaviors.
  • Transport Youth
  • Provide a continuum of intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety.
  • Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing (read and understand information presented in writing)
