About The Position

JJYS Technician I - Cache Valley Youth Center is a part-time, on-site position with a salary of $15.00 per hour. The role involves working closely with youth in the care and custody of JJYS, monitoring visitors and residents, scheduling activities, and assisting with facility checks. The technician will be responsible for resolving potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and the public by applying appropriate intervention techniques. New hires will participate in a one-week New Employee Training and a one-week verbal and physical de-escalation training within the first 90 days. The position provides a continuum of intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety. Key duties include communicating information clearly and concisely in writing, multi-tasking (answering phones, scheduling visits, working the Control Board), and teaching pro-social behavior skills and implementing specialized treatment plans.

Requirements

  • Availability to work rotating shifts, days, swing, graveyard, weekends and holidays.
  • Candidates 19 years of age or older
  • Candidates with a high school diploma or GED
  • Candidates that speak multiple languages
  • A valid Utah Driver's License
  • Work requires physical exertion and requires the ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with youth ordered into the care and custody of JJYS
  • Monitor visitors and residents within the facility
  • Schedule and coordinate activities for the youth
  • Assist the Control Supervisor by making perimeter checks
  • Resolve potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and or the public by applying appropriate intervention techniques to people, facilities and property
  • Provide a continuum of intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety.
  • Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing (read and understand information presented in writing)
  • Multi-tasking: Answering phones, scheduling visits, working the Control Board which opens doors for staff.
  • Mentorship & Rehabilitation: Teach pro-social behavior skills and implement specialized treatment plans.
