About The Position

This position is for a Student Employee (non-exempt) at St. Olaf College, within the Asian Studies Department. The purpose of this role is to assist Asian Studies faculty in their teaching, and very rarely, students may be asked to assist in their research and in college-related service. The position involves working with a given faculty member in Japanese. Those assigned as tutorial leaders will consult with the faculty member on tutorial content and conduct weekly individual or small group tutorial sessions for Japanese 111 to Japanese 302. Those assigned as graders will review homework, correct quizzes, and input grades onto Moodle. Transferable skills include communication (English and Japanese, spoken and written), attention to detail, organization, punctuality, responsibility, and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Completed Japanese 232 with a grade of A- or better, or equivalent language ability.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong Japanese language skills.
  • Enthusiasm for promoting and teaching Japanese.
