About The Position

We are looking for a Japanese Bilingual Producer with business-level Japanese language proficiency and strong communication skills in both Japanese and English, along with a deep understanding of Japanese business culture and entertainment. This role will focus on the typesetting pipeline for Magic: The Gathering, working with external licensors in Japan and internal production teams. The producer will manage schedules and asset details, translate complex feedback into actionable items, and develop tools to support the production process. This is a contract position through an external staffing agency.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in games/entertainment, technology, licensing/franchise work, or high-output print production, managing multiple overlapping projects and schedules.
  • Skilled in Smartsheet, Excel, Jira, Confluence, Acrobat, PowerPoint, and print or digital asset pipelines.
  • Professional proficiency in English speaking and writing.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand Japanese at a working professional level (N3 or higher).
  • A love of Japanese culture and intellectual properties.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and flexibility to pivot quickly and minimize manual updates for repeatable processes.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to build trust, hold partners accountable, and act as a cross-functional ally.
  • Ability to organize high volumes of detailed information in multiple formats and communicate it clearly to different audiences.
  • Strong listening skills with attention to detail and understanding of the big picture.
  • Ability to identify connections and close communication gaps.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of Magic: The Gathering gameplay and terminology.
  • Experience working in a Japanese business environment.
  • Familiarity with file types and storage methods, including digital asset management.
  • Experience participating in software rollout/release and Jira ticket lifecycle.
  • Experience with task automation (renaming batches of files, parsing data exports, generating reports).
  • Familiarity with Miro, Esko WebCenter, Claris FileMaker, Adobe Creative Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary producer for Japanese interfacing, focusing on JP-first sets, production editing, and creative technology groups, with secondary support for the card production group within Game Production.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between Game Production and Japanese IP partners, compiling, reviewing, and delivering presentations, production review files, and supporting materials in English and Japanese.
  • Transform partner requests and feedback into documented English action items for the appropriate teams.
  • Intake technology requests for Magic's tools and ensure their timely delivery by coordinating with internal and external tech teams.
  • Organize user acceptance testing, assist with documentation, and provide regular reports on tool rollouts.
  • Help develop expanded tools to support Game Production.
  • Utilize Smartsheet, Excel, and Microsoft Teams to enable Game Production to deliver high-quality assets by deadlines.
  • Build and maintain project timelines and projections, track metrics, and identify risks and challenges.
  • Proactively remove blockers, flag scope shifts, and gather necessary details to maintain project momentum.
