About The Position

The Janitor keeps office, commercial, or institutional premises clean and orderly. Assigned areas may include offices, classrooms, hallways, lobbies, breakrooms or cafeterias, restrooms, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas. This is a part-time evening and weekend position at Horizon House, located at 1033 E Washington St Central, Indianapolis, IN 46202. The schedule is Thursday from 6:00 pm to 12:00 am, Friday from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm, and Saturday from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The hourly rate is $13.00. The role involves cleaning and disinfecting furniture and equipment; maintaining floors, carpets, rugs, upholstery, windows, walls, and other surfaces; emptying and transporting waste; replenishing bathroom supplies; and moving small equipment or tools. The Janitor may also set up tables and chairs and communicate with Goodwill management and customers as needed. No degree or credential is required. Requirements

No degree or credential is required.
Demonstrate communication skills, including attentive listening, asking questions as appropriate, reading and comprehending basic work-related written material, and avoiding interruptions at inappropriate times.
Carry out simple one- or two-step instructions and handle standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Recognize risks, apply appropriate measures to control and manage them, and follow safety protocols.

Nice To Haves

Perform hand-cleaning tasks such as removing dust from furniture, blinds, and windowsills; sweep and mop floors; and clean and disinfect bathrooms.
Learn to properly use janitorial tools and equipment, including dust cloths, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning chemical solutions.
Operate and control riding and walk-behind scrubbers and other floor-care equipment according to manufacturer instructions to clean carpets and scrub hard floors.

Responsibilities

Clean and disinfect furniture and equipment.
Polish metalwork and clean and polish lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.
Wipe down walls, ceilings, and woodwork.
Wash windows, door panels, and sills.
Empty wastebaskets and clean ashtrays.
Transport trash and waste to the disposal area.
Replenish bathroom supplies.
Communicate with Goodwill management and customers when appropriate and as needed.
Transport small equipment or tools between departments.
Set up tables and chairs in auditoriums or halls.
Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors.
Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
Clean assigned areas such as offices, classrooms, hallways, lobbies, breakrooms or cafeterias, restrooms, elevators, stairways, and locker rooms.
