The Entry-Level Training Program (ELTP) is a technical training program in Columbia, South Carolina. Participants complete an initial four- to five-month paid classroom training program designed to prepare entry-level IT professionals for careers in mainframe systems programming and support. The curriculum focuses primarily on COBOL application development, along with other languages and technologies. Mainframe systems support the IT department by processing billions of online transactions annually and serving users and members across the United States. The role requires a security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. During training, participants apply technical and business concepts through classroom instruction, case studies, and collaborative learning activities to build knowledge of Information Systems processes, tools, and methodologies. Field assignments, projects, and practical learning experiences help participants analyze business and technical scenarios, develop problem-solving skills, and support business objectives. Participants must successfully complete required assessments, presentations, projects, and other program deliverables to demonstrate proficiency and readiness for Information Systems career opportunities. After completing the program, participants are assigned to a department where they apply their skills, continue acquiring knowledge and skills, and are reclassified to the entry-level position appropriate for their area. The work takes place in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and may require action and support outside normal business areas.
