The Entry-Level Training Program (ELTP) is a technical training program in Columbia, South Carolina. Participants begin with 4 to 5 months of paid classroom training. After successfully completing the program, participants join a technology area related to their field of study and continue developing their careers through mentoring, professional development, and career advancement opportunities. The training prepares entry-level IT professionals for careers in mainframe systems programming and support. The curriculum focuses primarily on COBOL application development, as well as other languages and technologies. The mainframe systems support the IT department by processing billions of online transactions annually and serving users and members across the United States. These positions require a security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is required. During training, participants apply technical and business concepts through classroom instruction, case studies, and collaborative learning activities. Field assignments, projects, and practical learning experiences develop problem-solving skills and support business objectives. Participants must successfully complete required assessments, presentations, projects, and other program deliverables to demonstrate proficiency and readiness for Information Systems career opportunities. After completion, participants are assigned to a department where their skills will be used, are expected to acquire additional knowledge and skills, and are reclassified to the entry-level position appropriate for that area. The work takes place in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and may require action and support outside normal business areas.
