About The Position

This job description outlines the essential functions of the IT Technician role, clarifying its place within the organization and its skill requirements. The IT Technician will assist with installing and maintaining local desktops, maintain system documentation, and provide technical support to users in collaboration with the support desk and network team. They will also assist the network team in troubleshooting network equipment issues and performing necessary repairs or upgrades. Availability during normal business hours is expected, with occasional flexibility for schedule variations or overtime to meet departmental needs. Requirements

  • Associate degree in computer science, data processing, or a related field.
  • Ability to install software and hardware on networking equipment and microcomputers.
  • Familiarity with a variety of networking and personal computer software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on computers and peripheral equipment.
  • Ability to communicate information to staff and the public in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability and desire to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to other employees and/or students of the organization.
  • Able to anticipate the needs of others and work independently.
  • Ability to focus on quality outcomes and adapt quickly to change as necessary.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines appropriately.
  • Observe universal precautions to prevent contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials.
  • Report any accidents, injuries, and unsafe equipment and conditions to supervisor by the end of the shift and report any pre-existing conditions as identified by the ADA.
  • Immediately report and correct, if possible, unsafe conditions or equipment.
  • Comply with relevant regulations, standards, and policies governing a safe workplace environment (OSHA, Accreditation, etc.).
  • Maintain current knowledge of all aspects of the facility’s safety program by attending safety-related training.
  • Accept modified work assignments after receiving physician’s release to return to work following an accident/injury.
  • Follow prescribed/recommended treatment given by treating physician(s) after an accident/injury.
  • Participate in required in-services and educational programs on an ongoing basis.
  • Follow all facility guidelines outlining standards of attendance and punctuality.
  • Responsible for reporting to and completing work at assigned times.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of IT/Helpdesk support experience is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation, configuration, maintenance, modification, and operation of Local Area Networks.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to network users, including password resets and creating email accounts.
  • Install PCs, software, and peripheral equipment.
  • Assist with PC and network configuration and cabling.
  • Administer and maintain end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network cabling and other networking equipment.
  • Assist with installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network-connected end-user hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  • Manage computer labs, including installing necessary software for each quarter and/or special events.
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required.
  • Assist with ordering software, hardware, and other supplies for the institutional computer network, personal computers, and computer labs.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the phone system.
  • Assist with the setup of technology for meetings, orientation/in-services, conferences, events, etc., which may require travel to an off-site location.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
  • Cooperate with employees during periods of heavier than normal workloads and accept revisions to duties on a temporary or permanent basis.
