About The Position

The IT Systems Administrator Intern at High Point Networks will collaborate with the Internal IT team to support day-to-day operations involving enterprise computer systems, servers, and network infrastructure. This internship is designed for individuals seeking hands-on experience in a complex, enterprise-grade environment. Under direct supervision, the intern will provide first-level technical assistance, contribute to documentation and automation initiatives, and develop foundational skills in system administration, security, and infrastructure management. This role emphasizes mentorship, professional growth, and technical skill development.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree/certification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, OS environments (Windows/macOS), and networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS).
  • A strong desire to learn new technologies and the ability to pivot between different tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, document work meticulously, and proactively seek clarification when needed.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a commitment to building a career in information technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining workstations, peripherals, operating systems, and standard business applications for internal staff.
  • Perform basic server and virtual machine administration tasks under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Act as a first-level point of contact for troubleshooting hardware and software issues, ensuring timely resolution or escalation.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of IT systems, configurations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Support infrastructure upgrade initiatives by assisting with planning, testing, and deployment activities.
  • Learn and apply basic scripting (PowerShell) or automation tools to streamline repetitive IT tasks.
  • Gain exposure to and assist in managing Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID, Intune, DHCP, and DNS.
  • Follow established workflows to test, troubleshoot, and resolve internal customer requests while maintaining a focus on security and efficiency.
  • Provide professional and courteous support to all internal users, maintaining a high level of responsiveness.
  • Ensure clear and timely communication with team members, supervisors, and stakeholders regarding task status.
  • Log all work as service tickets in ConnectWise and record time entries accurately to ensure data integrity for the department.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay aligned with department goals and industry best practices.
