About The Position

This position is a key role in the OIT Messaging and Directory team, responsible for designing, supporting, and securing foundational IT services that keep every executive branch agency up and running. From secure logins, directory administration and automation of account life cycles to DNS, data and file transfer solutions, your work ensures vital systems are always available, secure, and compliant.

Requirements

• Knowledge of software engineering design and development methodologies, paradigms, and tools; the software life cycle; software reusability; and software reliability metrics.
• Knowledge of the architecture and typology of software, hardware, and networks, including LANS, WANS, and telecommunications systems, their components and associated protocols and standards, and how they operate and integrate with one another and with associated controlling software.
• Knowledge of methods and controls to validate the identity of individuals to verify access approval and level, and monitor activity to ensure that only authorized access is taking place.
• Knowledge of specifications, uses, and types of computer or computer-related equipment.
• Knowledge of computer network, desktop, and mainframe operating systems and their applications.
• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for installing, integrating, and optimizing information systems components.
• Training in computer science, information technology, or system administration – or a similar field or professional experience – that provided knowledge of systems, networking software, hardware, protocols, and scripting/automation tools.
• Knowledge of principles, methods, and tools for analyzing and developing systems testing and evaluation procedures and technical characteristics of IT systems, including identifying critical operational issues.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and troubleshoot identity and authentication systems used by all executive branch agencies and cover on-premise and the cloud.
• Manage the synchronization of identity data from HR systems through on-premise and into the cloud, automating and enforcing account lifecycle governance.
• Keep the state’s digital backbone synchronized and available with high-reliability Domain Name Services and Network Time Protocol systems.
• Ensure secure and compliant digital data sharing across departments and agencies statewide.
• Install, configure, and maintain essential server software (e.g., Windows Server, Linux such as Alma, Debian, RHEL), Directory and DNS services.
• Architect and evolve systems—physical, virtual, and cloud—to meet new enterprise needs, ensuring scalability and resiliency.
• Work directly with internal customers to troubleshoot issues, train users, and design service extensions tailored to operational needs.
• Provide after-hours support for critical failures, diagnose issues, and coordinate resolutions quickly to avoid service disruption.
• Collaborate on security planning, implement firewall rules, and ensure systems meet strict compliance standards to protect sensitive state data.
