About The Position

Responsible for front line support of users of desktops, networks and IT resources. Handles general questions and refers more complicated issues to higher level IT staff for their review or resolution. This category can include team members in help center, computer lab support and desktop support. At the National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC), every team member plays a vital role in our collective success. We are seeking a dynamic IT Support Associate to make direct contributions to the strategic growth of the Information and Operational Technology (IT and OT) systems at the foundation of world-class automated science laboratory at Carnegie Mellon University. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced and innovative setting. In this role, you will be instrumental in advancing the integrated operations team who are focused on supporting users and bringing new automation and science capabilities online. You will collaborate with development teams from the National Robotics Engineering Center who is partnering with the lab to rapidly bring new capabilities online, first in prototype modes and then for active scientific research. Successful applicants will take initiative, be curious, be willing to test solutions and report findings to senior staff and development teams. This position will be located in Bakery Square.

Requirements

  • Diagnose hardware and software problems on endpoint computing
  • Manage computer and domain accounts
  • Work with commercial and in-house software to meet requests
  • Install computer equipment in offices including computer towers and monitors
  • Manage support requests with staff and vendors as well as internal customers
  • This position will have access to ITAR information so must be a US person
  • Adaptability and openness to change as the department and organization evolves
  • Ability to work well with others and/or part of a team
  • Able to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information, and using appropriate discretion
  • Close attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate and detailed reports and records
  • Work well under pressure with frequent interruptions while meeting deadlines
  • Competency to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Successful pre-employment background check

Responsibilities

  • Account management
  • Responsible for handling first level support of service requests for the Biological and Chemical Innovation Laboratory
  • Support all technology, including laptops/desktops, servers, printers, networks, and business production software
  • Use provided tools to track inventory
  • Work with software and hardware vendors to resolve issues
  • Use ticketing system and communicate face to face to resolve the needs of the organization
  • Be an active participant in a support group with evolving responsibilities in a face paced environment.
