IT Software Engineer - Diversification

Nelnet Servicing•Lincoln, CO
•Hybrid

About The Position

Nelnet is hiring an IT Software Engineer to contribute to a project-based diversification initiative: WREN, an AI-enabled workforce onboarding and case support platform for public-sector agencies. The initial product is intended for State Health and Human Services agencies, beginning with Child Support Services. It aims to help frontline staff learn, build confidence, and handle complex, high-stakes casework through onboarding and training workflows, decision support, and guided user experiences. The engineer will help deliver the MVP, initially building WREN until it is handed off to a long-term product team. After that handoff, the engineer may continue supporting WREN or transition to the MVP development team for another product within New Business and Innovation. The role contributes across the software development lifecycle on a cross-functional scrum team. Nelnet describes its work environment as hybrid: associates who live within 30 miles of an office follow a standard schedule of 24 in-office hours per week, subject to change at manager discretion. Visa sponsorship is unavailable; candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship. External candidates residing in Alabama, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, or Washington cannot currently be considered.
