About The Position

The IT/OT Systems Engineer is the primary IT contact for Operational Technology (OT) and laboratory technology stakeholders at the Clayton and RTP sites. The role connects Manufacturing, Laboratories, and IT to help keep OT and laboratory systems and supporting infrastructure available, stable, secure, compliant, and aligned with enterprise standards. It works with Automation, Engineering, Quality, site users, application owners, cybersecurity, central infrastructure teams, managed service providers, and technology vendors to organize demand and coordinate incidents, service requests, changes, lifecycle work, and projects. This is a hands-on engineering role involving infrastructure administration, system troubleshooting, application installation and support, patching, backup and recovery, connectivity support, documentation, and routine operational work under approved procedures and change controls. The engineer coordinates local delivery, communicates business impact, and validates stakeholder acceptance and transition to production support. The position supports systems and infrastructure such as servers, virtualization, storage, backup, network connectivity, endpoints, interfaces, and related platforms. It also coordinates service providers and vendors, supports incident response and recovery, maintains technical documentation, and contributes to lifecycle planning, cybersecurity, compliance, and continuous improvement. Work is performed in an office environment, with frequent driving to site locations and occasional travel within the United States.

  • Hands-on knowledge of Windows server and endpoint administration, virtualization, networking, storage, backup and recovery, identity and access dependencies, and application support.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex issues across infrastructure, applications, connectivity, vendors, and operational processes.
  • Strong understanding of IT service management processes, including incident, request, problem, change, configuration, asset, and risk management.
  • Ability to work effectively with Manufacturing, Laboratories, Automation, Engineering, Quality, application teams, cybersecurity, and central IT organizations.
  • Ability to translate operational needs into structured technical requirements and coordinate implementation through the correct ownership path.
  • Experience coordinating managed service providers, vendors, central IT teams, or cross-functional delivery teams.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on operational impact, compliance, data integrity, and cybersecurity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically at least five years of related experience.
  • Ability to communicate complex information and ideas clearly, and to listen to and understand spoken information.
  • Ability to work independently with little guidance, plan work schedules to meet goals, interact with others, handle sensitive information, work with diverse groups to obtain consensus, and apply abstract principles to complex conceptual issues.
  • Able to perform the stated occupational demands, including frequent sitting and hand movements, occasional walking and neck bending or twisting, lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, and frequent driving to site locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, regulated manufacturing, or GxP laboratory environments.
  • Experience supporting industrial control or manufacturing platforms, laboratory systems, industrial networks, manufacturing applications, or validated computerized systems.
  • Knowledge of virtualization platforms, Windows Server, Active Directory, TCP/IP networking, firewalls, backup technologies, monitoring, patching, and endpoint-management tools.
  • Awareness of infrastructure qualification, computer system validation, data integrity expectations, cybersecurity controls, and formal change control.
  • Experience with ServiceNow or an equivalent IT service management and configuration management platform.
  • Relevant certifications or training in ITIL, networking, infrastructure, virtualization, cybersecurity, Microsoft technologies, or OT security.

Responsibilities
