About The Position

New-Indy Containerboard (NICB) is seeking a hands-on IT/OT Senior Systems Engineer to strengthen the critical infrastructure supporting its North American manufacturing operations. The role focuses primarily on server management, with additional responsibility for IT networking. The engineer will perform complex infrastructure work, provide technical analysis and support, and serve as a subject matter expert in systems management. Infrastructure solutions must be scalable, secure, resilient, aligned with business objectives, and support 24/7/365 manufacturing facilities. The position is based on a 40-hour on-site workweek, with availability for emergency call-ins supporting a 24-hour production environment. On average, 25% travel may be required for offsite software and systems integration efforts. The role requires the ability to lift 30 pounds unassisted.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of server management and IT networking experience.
  • Advanced architecture, deployment, and management of mission-critical compute platforms; VMware ESXi/vCenter experience is required.
  • Expert hands-on management of enterprise rack/blade hardware, such as Dell PowerEdge or HPE ProLiant.
  • Experience with SAN/NAS storage architectures, such as Dell PowerStore/PowerMax, HPE Nimble, or Pure Storage.
  • Experience designing, maintaining, and testing enterprise backup solutions, such as Rubrik, Veeam, or Cohesity, including air-gapped backups, immutable storage, and rapid operational recovery plans.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining hyperconverged infrastructure and ruggedized edge compute nodes in plant or field environments.
  • Knowledge of storage networks, including 1–100 Gbps Ethernet, Layer 2/3 switching, routing, and VLANs.
  • Understanding of the Purdue model and experience operating segmented networks that protect critical operational technology assets.
  • Ability to work a 40-hour on-site workweek and provide emergency call-in availability for a 24-hour production environment.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% on average for offsite software and system integration efforts.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 or more years of server management and IT networking experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning.
  • Experience within or supporting 24/7 manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with hyperconverged infrastructure such as VxRail or SimpliVity.
  • Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft 365 administration.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, or a similar discipline, or equivalent technology work experience.
  • Familiarity with fundamental ITIL principles, especially change management/MOC processes.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws, and adherence to privileged access principles.
  • Experience with patching processes.
  • Root-cause analysis skills, including resolving underlying problems rather than only symptoms.

Responsibilities

  • Manage servers and related infrastructure, including backup and recovery (approximately 75% of the role).
  • Perform IT networking responsibilities (approximately 25% of the role).
  • Architect, deploy, and manage mission-critical compute platforms designed for continuous availability and zero-downtime maintenance windows.
  • Manage enterprise rack and blade hardware and SAN/NAS storage architectures.
  • Design, maintain, and test enterprise backup solutions, including air-gapped backups, immutable storage, and rapid recovery plans for plant systems following hardware failure or a cyber incident.
  • Implement and maintain hyperconverged infrastructure and ruggedized edge compute nodes in plant and field environments.
  • Operate segmented networks to protect critical operational technology assets.
  • Provide technical analysis and support and act as a systems management subject matter expert.
  • Be available for emergency call-ins in support of the 24-hour production environment.
  • Travel for offsite software and system integration efforts as required.
