About The Position

Discord is seeking an IT Ops Engineer with a specialization in networking. This role is for an individual with a background in IT operations who has developed deep expertise in networking and wishes to continue expanding their skillset. The engineer will be responsible for the full spectrum of employee technology, sharing the workload with the rest of the IT Ops team, while owning end-to-end connectivity as their primary domain of expertise. Success will be measured by leverage and outcomes, rather than the number of tickets handled.

Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on corporate and enterprise networking experience, including wireless, switching, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, VPN, and Zero Trust access.
  • Generalist knowledge across identity (e.g. Okta), endpoint management (e.g. Jamf, Intune), and SaaS management, sufficient to handle a share of the support queue.
  • Proficiency in automation, including scripting, building no-code and low-code workflows, and utilizing AI for faster automation development.
  • A business-problem mindset, strong full-stack troubleshooting instincts, and a collaborative, low-ego, secure-by-design posture with clear written communication.
  • 5+ years of experience managing IT systems in high-growth tech companies.

Nice To Haves

  • Network certifications (CCNA, CCNP) or equivalent demonstrated depth.
  • Exposure to SOC 2 or SOX access-review processes.
  • Background in high-growth consumer tech and multi-region support.

Responsibilities

  • Own the office and remote network as a reliable, monitored system, including wireless, wired LAN and switching, DNS, DHCP, IP address management (IPAM), VPN, and Zero Trust access.
  • Run network monitoring, and manage configuration through automation and version control where the platform supports it.
  • Own the networking MSP relationship as a technical partner, holding them accountable for outcomes, managing the escalation path, and ensuring documentation and operability for the team.
  • Work the shared IT support queue alongside the team, assisting Discordians with their day-to-day IT needs.
  • Analyze individual tickets to identify underlying workflows, automate recurring breakdowns, and measure the resulting time and risk savings.
  • Participate in on-call rotations.
