IT Operations Lead

Fab2Austin, TX
$120,000 - $150,000

About The Position

The fab2 team is looking for an exceptional, hands-on IT Operations Lead to build the operational foundation that lets fab2 scale. This role sits on the Business Operations team and is responsible for building the operational foundation that lets fab2 scale. We believe our internal systems should be as thoughtful and ambitious as the products we build. As our first dedicated IT hire, you’ll lead IT operations across fab2’s Austin and San Francisco offices. You’ll own the systems, devices, access, and workplace technology employees depend on while helping define how IT should run as the company grows across teams and locations. This is a hands-on role with broad responsibility. You might be setting up a new hire, resolving a network issue, troubleshooting something blocking an engineer, or improving a device or access workflow that is no longer working well. You’ll assess what is needed, set priorities, and see issues through to resolution. We’re looking for someone practical and resourceful who can work independently, bring structure to a growing environment, and build an IT function that is reliable, responsive, and ready for what comes next.

Requirements

  • Hands-on ownership of onboarding, offboarding, account provisioning, access management, and device deployment
  • Strong administration skills across cloud-based business applications, identity and access tools, device management systems, and VPN solutions
  • Knowledge of hardware and software asset management, from procurement and deployment through maintenance, recovery, and retirement
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across devices, applications, user accounts, networks, and workplace technology
  • Working knowledge of network infrastructure, including internet, Wi-Fi, and connectivity troubleshooting
  • Proven ability to identify gaps in IT operations, implement practical solutions, and create consistent ways of working
  • Strong communication, organization, and judgment when supporting employees and managing competing priorities

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an early or first IT hire at a fast-growing company
  • Experience supporting hardware, manufacturing, laboratory, R&D, or engineering environments
  • Experience using Python, Bash, PowerShell, APIs, or no-code tools to automate repetitive IT tasks
  • IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar

Responsibilities

  • Own employee onboarding and offboarding, including device setup, account provisioning, access changes, license management, and equipment recovery
  • Administer fab2’s core workplace systems, including productivity, identity and access, collaboration, device management, VPN, and other business applications
  • Manage the full lifecycle of company hardware and software, from procurement and deployment through inventory, maintenance, replacement, license reclamation, and retirement
  • Provide day-to-day IT support across Austin and San Francisco, resolving hardware, software, account, connectivity, and workplace technology issues
  • Maintain office technology and infrastructure, including internet, Wi-Fi, networking equipment, conference rooms, and other on-site systems
  • Partner with engineering and operations teams to support technology used across office, lab, and manufacturing environments
  • Create clear standards, documentation, and runbooks for core IT workflows
  • Identify gaps and emerging needs, implement practical improvements, and manage external vendors or service providers when needed
