About The Position

Austin Energy is seeking a Telephony Network Engineer III, with the City title IT Infrastructure Architect, to join its IT Network LAN & Telecom team. The role provides expert, hands-on operational support for telephony and network infrastructure, including configuration, installation, maintenance, patching, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of unified communications systems, SIP trunks, and voice routers. The position contributes to the design, implementation, management, and maintenance of complex, secure, and reliable network infrastructure, documents and troubleshoots network components, and recommends technologies and solutions. The architect leads and supports architecture activities for the domain, translating department and technical requirements into architectural designs and deliverables aligned with City strategy. This includes developing visions, strategies, conceptual and logical designs, roadmaps, technology principles, and standard configurations; assessing the current environment and recommending improvements; guiding project teams; and supporting technology strategy, migration, integration, and evolution. The position collaborates with architects, engineers, stakeholders, and project teams and may provide leadership, assignments, evaluation, training, and mentoring to others. The role supports 24-hour utility operations and requires an on-call rotation, which may result in callback to work. It requires travel between local worksites to survey integrated network solutions, and infrastructure team members must be onsite at least twice weekly. The position is designated as critical; schedules and work locations may change during extraordinary or emergency situations. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with additional hours potentially required, including evenings, weekends, holidays, inclement weather, and emergency closures. The role requires a criminal and NERC background investigation and a valid Texas Class C driver's license or the ability to obtain one by the hire date.
