One of TEKsystems' clients, a Fortune 500 company and leader in their respective industry, is looking for an IT Specialist - Field Support Technician. The primary responsibility is for area installations, migrations and performance of IT Infrastructure technology in the business offices, plant and operational environments. This responsibility will include the project management of area installations, migrations and problem resolution for complex chronic technical issues. This responsibility also includes the application of technical and system knowledge to provide installation and support of the field IT technology in the business offices and plant environments. The resources that this position may work with and coordinate for these efforts include technicians, enterprise telecom and system integration resources as well as vendor sales, support, management and technical resources. The technology involved in projects and problem solving may include Wireless, Network Wiring, LAN/WAN Networking, Surveillance Systems, Terminals, PC’s, Printers, Time Systems, Point of Sale interfaces (such as scale interfaces, pugmills, remote printing, card readers and kiosks), Power Supplies, cellular devices and other IT technology as needed to support the business. This position provides support for the placement, and maintenance of voice and data copper and fiber infrastructure requirements. Provides documentation of technology inventory and cabling layout at all assigned locations. May serve as project manager of small to medium scale telecom related projects. Assists with telephone and voicemail system installations and support. Coordinates with outside contractors to ensure company standards, practices, and safety requirements are being met. Advanced Problem solving of issues by analyzing, identifying and diagnosing faults and symptoms using established processes and procedures. Performs root cause analysis and develops checklists for typical problems. Recommends procedures and controls for problem prevention. Complies with all standard practices, procedures and policies governing principal duties and responsibilities. Requires the maintenance of technology spare parts/equipment inventory to provide remote technology support. If assigned, support will be provided by traveling to remote sites with necessary support equipment in an assigned company owned vehicle. Requires 40-70 percent travel with a combination of local and long distance travel. The ideal candidate would have some experience leading both people and projects, although they would consider someone with "leadership potential." This position is 80-100% travel, much of it within a reasonable driving distance, so we are looking for someone who is not just willing to do travel, but actually thrives in a field job and someone who doesn't like sitting behind a screen at a desk all day. The majority of travel is close enough (2-3 hours or less) where the expectation is sleeping in your own bed at night; but, there will certainly be a handful of times each month where a hotel stay would be needed. The company prioritizes safety, so the technician will have to abide by MSHA safety standards and wear hard hat/boots, etc. This is a jack-of-all trades position, so we need someone who is perfectly fine with running cable, providing hardware and software support and networking - perhaps even in the same day!
