About The Position

Clients seeks an entry-level Field Technician/Logistical Support candidate with trade service experience. Backgrounds may include electrical or mechanical helper, alarm technician, handyman, or automotive technician. DC Government seeks an entry level Field Technician and Logistical Support candidate. Seek candidates who bring any and all trade service experiences to our telecommunications Operation. Looking for those with experience in trade services such as but not limited to electrical helper, mechanical helper, alarm technician, handy person, automotive technicians, etc. As a Flex Tech – Level 1: Field Technician & Logistical Support with the DC Government, you will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing our telecommunications infrastructure across more than 600 facilities in and around the District of Columbia. Your role combines technical fieldwork with logistical coordination, ensuring seamless operations and exceptional support to our internal teams and external customers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 Years of trade service experience such as but not limited to electrical helper, mechanical helper, alarm technician, handy person, telecommunications, etc.
  • 2 Years of diagnosing and solving problems with telecom, electrical, mechanical, alarms or other similar systems.
  • 2 Years of ability to read and understand technical instructions, drawings, and blueprints.
  • 2 Years of ability to use, update and share files on cloud storage systems such as SharePoint and OneDrive.
  • 1 Year of ability to use and update ticketing system for each job.
  • 1 Year of proficiency in spreadsheet software: Ability to create, edit, and analyze spreadsheets using any spreadsheet.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 125lbs.
  • Ability to climb a ladder and be on your feet most of the shift.
  • Must be able to use basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, etc.
  • Experience using any of the following tools; multi-meters, current clamps, network cable testers, network cable toners, optical power meter.

Nice To Haves

  • Availability for 8-hour shifts ranging from 6 AM to 11 PM Monday through Friday.
  • Ability to adjust schedule to accommodate maintenance windows outside of regularly scheduled shifts.
  • Ability to support emergency repairs within and outside of regular scheduled work hours.
  • Able and willing to learn how to operate a forklift with training.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces with proper training.
  • Willingness to learn how to troubleshoot issues with phone, wireless and network systems.
  • Able to learn and adapt to various tasks related to telecommunications infrastructure, equipment, and customer needs.
  • Willingness to safely install, upgrade, and remove fixtures, network equipment, and cabling.
  • Eagerness to learn about industry standards like ANSI, TIA/EIA, and National Electric Codes.
  • Ability to learn about cabling standards such as EIA/TIA standards.
  • Ability to learn basic Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure and wireless access points.
  • Ability to pursue further education and certifications, such as CompTIA A+ and BICSI.
  • Able to learn and support receiving, shipping and inventory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install, upgrade, and remove telecommunications equipment and supporting cabling at various facilities in collaboration with Network Engineers.
  • Uninstall and transport equipment from customer premises to DC client’s facilities.
  • Install and remove cabinets, racks, ladder racks, and other fixtures as needed.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and perform upgrades on Wireless Access Points in collaboration with Wireless Engineers.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues related to phone, wireless, and network systems.
  • Conduct limited fiber testing and maintenance, including the use of tools like multimeters, network cable testers, Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR), fiber splicing machine.
  • Troubleshoot and address outages related to phone and network cutovers.
  • Coordinate the delivery and distribution of equipment, tools, and parts to various jobsites.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and support field dispatch activities.
  • Organize work schedules, transportation, and site logistics to ensure efficient operations.
  • Work alongside the Fiber Maintenance and Provisioning Team, Data Center Facility Team, Voice Operations Team, Field Operations Team, and Warehouse Team.
  • Rotate and support different teams as assignments vary daily and weekly, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to project needs.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with customers, responding to requests and inquiries courteously and efficiently.
  • Effectively handle phone calls, emails, and in-person interactions to ensure customer satisfaction and minimize disruptions.
  • Address missed communications within one hour during the workday to maintain high service standards.
  • Capture detailed notes, take photos, and email summaries of work completed or issues encountered.
  • Maintain and complete paperwork for projects, including test results and as-built documentation.
  • Transfer test results and data from devices and meters to email using laptops or mobile phones.
  • Follow all safety protocols and industry standards, including OSHA, EIA/TIA, ANSI, IEEE, and BICSI cabling standards.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Work safely in confined spaces, on ladders and traffic safely with proper training.
  • Operate power tools like hammer drills and saws responsibly and with training.
  • Pursue further education and certifications, such as CompTIA A+ and BICSI, to advance your technical skills and career within DC office.
  • Stay updated with industry standards and best practices to ensure high-quality support and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to various tasks related to telecommunications infrastructure, equipment, and customer needs.
  • Assist with field dispatch operations, ensuring timely and accurate deployment of technicians and resources.
  • Track and manage inventory levels, ensuring that necessary supplies and materials are available for ongoing projects.
