About The Position

The IT Field Technician will be responsible for remediating conditioned spaces, specifically IDF closets, according to established standards. This involves developing durability, redundancy, and organization within these spaces by maintaining standards in device placement, power design, labeling, and cable management. The role also focuses on improving team procedures, enhancing skillsets, and ensuring adherence to processes for the benefit of the SEO organization. A key aspect of the role is formalizing training to create accountability and consistent results, while also being accountable to leadership and maintaining clear communication throughout the process. The technician will evaluate environments through audits of IDF closets, documenting existing conditions, identifying discrepancies from target standards, and developing game plans for cleanup, redundancy, and improved troubleshooting. This information will be used to populate SharePoint documentation. The role involves creating scopes of work, bills of materials (BOM), implementation plans, and drafting change orders for leadership and CAB approval. Logistics management, including tracking orders, coordinating with facilities, and preparing IDF closet spaces, is also a responsibility. The technician will prepare components and cabling, stage equipment, perform 'Rack & Stack' of power equipment, connect devices to the network, and document in the EcoStruxure system. They will move dual-corded devices to new redundant power equipment and prepare for the cutover of single-corded devices to rack-mounted Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).

Responsibilities

Develop durability, redundancy, and organization in conditioned spaces (IDF closets).
Maintain standards in device placement, power design, labeling, and dressing out cables.
Improve team procedures, hone baseline skillsets, and ensure adherence to the process.
Formalize training to create accountability and consistent results.
Conduct audits of IDF closets to document the environment.
Identify differences between current power/cooling environments and target standards.
Develop a game plan to clean up closets, meet standards, ensure redundancy, and ease troubleshooting.
Create a Scope of Work outlining equipment removal, relocation, and installation.
Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) of required components.
Get vendor quotes, delivery timelines, and funding approval for BOM items.
Procure funds and order equipment from vendors.
Develop an Implementation Plan detailing site description, room info, equipment changes, impacted devices/applications, and points of contact.
Draft Change Orders (STANDARD and NORMAL) and populate them with implementation details.
Negotiate with stakeholders to determine downtime windows.
Finalize the implementation plan and submit the change order for approval.
Manage logistics, including tracking orders, coordinating with local facilities, and preparing IDF closet spaces.
Confirm shipping, receipt, and inventory of equipment.
Prepare components and cabling (unbox, mount ears, add phase tape, label).
Move specific equipment from temporary storage to IDF closets.
Review the implementation plan and Change Order (CO).
Perform 'Rack & Stack' of power equipment (UPS, ATS, PDU).
Connect power equipment to the network, IP, and document in the EcoStruxure system.
Move dual-corded devices to new redundant power equipment.
Prepare for the 'Cutover' of single-corded devices to rack-mounted Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
Provide dual power sources for all MDF/IDF rack equipment.
Install additional secondary power supply modules in switches and servers (where applicable).
Re-dress power cables with Red, Yellow, and Black color codes, ensuring labels on both ends.
Install cabling according to vertical and horizontal pathways, ensuring consistency and parallelism.
Clean up cabling, ensuring uniformity and proper dressing.
Use velcro for organization and strain relief at power plug points.
