About The Position

We are a leading nationwide technology systems integrator specializing in the design, installation, and maintenance of large-scale, complex Audio Visual, Communications, PoE Lighting, and Electronic Security systems. Serving premier clients across corporate, healthcare, higher education, and government sectors, our single-source business model provides comprehensive, end-to-end technology solutions supported by multiple regional operations centers across the country. We are seeking an experienced IT Design Engineer to join our technical team. In this role, you will provide critical pre-sales engineering support to sales representatives and technical teams for comprehensive design/build proposals. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise in IT Structured Cabling systems, proficient hands-on knowledge of CAD and Excel, and exceptional communication skills to interface effectively with internal teams, trade partners, and client stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Two-year degree in Electronics/Technology required; a 4-year Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of active working experience within the IT / Low-Voltage / Audio Visual system integration field.
  • Proven, hands-on proficiency in CAD software, Microsoft Excel, and technical schematic design.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong customer service orientation.
  • Highly self-motivated self-starter with proven planning, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering tasks and active project proposals simultaneously while interfacing with diverse project teams.

  • BICSI certification (RSDD/technician-level) highly welcomed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop preliminary system design drawings, construction documents, equipment specifications, and detailed cost proposals, including rough-order-of-magnitude (ROM) project budgets.
  • Engage directly with end-users and internal business units to lead technology discovery discussions, analyze existing client infrastructure, and architect tailored solutions that achieve client goals.
  • Create and modify architectural CAD plans, adapting architects' drawings to incorporate structured cabling and technology systems seamlessly.
  • Manage design engagements across low-voltage disciplines (AV, structured cabling, security), collaborating closely with architects, MEP engineers, general contractors, and trade partners.
  • Generate formal sales proposals, submit approved documentation to clients, and maintain active, clear communication with client engineering and design teams.
  • Work alongside Program Managers and Project Teams during implementation to verify full system functionality and gather pre- and post-sales "lessons learned" to share with sales and engineering staff.
  • Continuously develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging IT, low-voltage, and AV technologies.
