IT Business Systems Manager

Jim Dent ConstructionHope, BC
Hybrid

About The Position

Jim Dent Construction, headquartered in Hope BC, is a respected and long-standing leader in heavy civil construction across British Columbia, known for successfully delivering complex infrastructure projects. They are seeking a strategic and hands-on IT Business Systems Manager to lead the technology landscape across their group of companies. This role serves as a critical bridge between executive leadership and their external Managed Service Provider (MSP). The position will be based in Hope or Kelowna BC, with hybrid work arrangements available for consideration. Rather than focusing on day-to-day help desk tasks, this role will be the "architect" of business systems, managing the software stack, leading digital transformation projects (including AI and systems integration), and ensuring IT infrastructure supports the unique operational needs of the group. The manager will work closely with the group’s Corporate Controller to optimize the ERP environment and drive process improvements.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5-8 years in IT management or Business Systems roles, preferably within the construction or heavy equipment industries.
  • ERP Knowledge: Familiarity with mid-market ERP systems.
  • Technical Breadth: Strong understanding of cloud architecture, API integrations, and software development.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to translate technical challenges into business risks and financial opportunities for executive leadership.
  • Project Management: Proven track record of leading software rollouts or system migrations across multiple departments or companies.
  • Communication: Capable of speaking "tech" with the MSP and "operations" with a Site Superintendent.
  • Travel: Ability to travel occasionally to company sites and offices to gain firsthand exposure to business operations and culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Acumatica is a significant asset.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for our third-party MSP; audit their performance against SLAs and review all technical quotes.
  • Manage relationships with software vendors, cellular providers, and specialized hardware suppliers.
  • Vet and approve all IT-related hardware and software purchases within established budgetary limits.
  • Lead the implementation of new technologies, including AI tools and automated data extraction processes.
  • Manage the integration of peripheral software (Telematics, Parts/POS systems, Document Management) with our central ERP (Acumatica).
  • Identify manual bottlenecks in business processes and propose technical solutions to automate workflows.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce IT Acceptable Use Policies, specifically surrounding AI usage and data security.
  • Collaborate with the CFO to manage cybersecurity risk and ensure compliance for insurance and regulatory requirements.
  • Standardize software procurement processes across all subsidiaries to eliminate "license bloat."
  • Ensure field crews have the necessary hardware and connectivity to perform their roles.
  • Oversee the lifecycle of company assets (laptops, tablets, mobile devices).
  • Act as a high-level escalation point for complex technical issues that fall outside the MSP’s standard scope.
