About The Position

The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking full-time, seasonal IT Assistant Office Specialists to assist in the upcoming November 3, 2026 Statewide General Election. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the election process! The Elections Division is an exciting, fast-paced environment, especially as elections approach. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a group of dynamic, well-organized, and highly efficient individuals committed to the democratic process. IT Assistants will be responsible for a variety of tech projects and tasks throughout the election period. IT Assistants will work on-site at the Registration & Elections Division at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo, CA, and throughout the county at the various Vote Centers.

Requirements

Previous experience providing basic PC/tech troubleshooting support
Knowledge and use of iPads and iPhones
Basic understanding of Wi-Fi networking
Basic understanding of hardware setup
Basic understanding of software installation
Ability to troubleshoot issues with system configurations
Well-organized/detail-oriented
Ability to explain issues clearly and follow instructions to meet deadlines
Excellent communication skills (written/verbal)
Customer service

Responsibilities

Assist with office tech support
Perform basic PC/printer/monitor troubleshooting
Schedule site visits at fifty (50) Vote Center sites with County network engineers
Bring networking hardware to site
Test facility network connectivity at site
Record data into excel spreadsheets from tests conducted by the network engineers
Assist with Vote Center tech support
Functionally test equipment used at Vote Centers (iPads, wireless printers, WIFI printers, etc.)
Visit Vote Centers and report connection issues
