About The Position

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is seeking an IT Asset Management Technician to manage the lifecycle of IT assets. This role involves procurement coordination, receiving and intake of shipments, asset tagging and inventory control, imaging and configuration for deployment, deployment and handover, managing moves/adds/changes, processing returns and recovery, and managing e-waste and disposition. The technician will also be responsible for software asset and license management, data integrity, and IT asset management system administration. Additionally, the role requires adherence to security and compliance standards, continuous process improvement, and stakeholder support and communication. FHCSD is a large federally qualified health center operating over 90 sites across San Diego County, dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare services to underserved populations.

Requirements

  • Associate degree with relevant experience will be considered.
  • On-site required.
  • Must have a car, a valid California driver’s license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance.
  • An acceptable driving record is required.
  • 2-4 years in IT asset management, desktop support, or IT operations required.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, ITIL, NIST SP 800-88 media sanitization, and e-waste practices.
  • SOP creation, inventory control, barcode/RFID scanning, cycle counts, reconciliation experience.
  • Strong understanding of asset lifecycle practices, inventory controls, and audit readiness.
  • Ability to manage cross-functional workflows (IT, project management, security, procurement, finance, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of: Endpoint management (Microsoft AD, SDP, MDM, printer fleet tools).
  • Hands-on experience with Asset management systems (Workday ERP, Manage Engine, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with Directory/OS (Windows, iOS/Android; AD fundamentals; BitLocker/File Vault; endpoint security agents, e.g., Sophos).
  • Hands-on experience with Imaging & deployment (Building and maintaining gold images, drivers, task sequences, and application packaging).
  • Maintains accurate, auditable records; resolves discrepancies quickly.
  • Plans deployments around clinical schedules; communicates clearly with non-technical users.
  • Owns outcomes across lifecycle stages; meets SLAs and compliance requirements.
  • Proposes and implements pragmatic enhancements to workflows and tooling.
  • Collaborates with Service Desk, Engineering, Security, Procurement, and Finance.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Reporting/analytics with Excel preferred.

  • Healthcare IT environment preferred.
  • Exposure to Lean/Six Sigma a plus.
  • Experience with helpdesk, asset management systems, and software license management/true-up in Healthcare IT operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate procurement of IT assets, including purchase requests, vendor quote validation, and order tracking.
  • Receive shipments, verify quantities and specifications, inspect for damage, and log assets into IT asset management and purchasing systems.
  • Affix asset tags, log assets into the IT asset management system, update location and custody records, and maintain accurate stock levels.
  • Build and apply standard images/profiles, install approved software, and validate device readiness for deployment.
  • Coordinate deployment with IT Support and Project Management teams, capture acceptance, update ownership, and document configuration details.
  • Execute device swaps, upgrades, and location moves, maintaining chain of custody documentation.
  • Process returned assets, assess condition, perform data sanitization, and determine redeployment, repair, or e-waste disposition.
  • Manage compliant disposal of IT assets with approved vendors, documenting certificates of destruction and sanitization logs.
  • Track software entitlements, versions, and allocations; assist with license true-ups and renewals.
  • Reclaim licenses from retired devices to prevent over-deployment and ensure vendor compliance.
  • Maintain application catalogs for standardized imaging and deployment.
  • Ensure high-quality asset records, including serial number, model, warranty, custodian, and location.
  • Reconcile system data with physical counts and perform regular audits and cycle counts.
  • Follow HIPAA policies for safeguarding PHI and ensure devices meet security baselines.
  • Perform media sanitization aligned with NIST SP 800-88 standards.
  • Support audit requests from Security, Compliance, and Finance.
  • Document workflows (SOPs, runbooks) and identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
  • Provide status updates to requestors and coordinate schedules with IT leadership.
  • Train Service Desk/Desktop Techs on asset handling procedures.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Finance on budgeting, capex/opex tracking, and cost optimization.
