About The Position

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is seeking an IT Asset Management Technician to manage the end-to-end lifecycle of IT assets. This role involves procurement coordination, receiving and intake of assets, asset tagging and inventory control, imaging and configuration for deployment, deployment and handover, managing moves/adds/changes, processing returns and recovery, and managing e-waste and disposition. The technician will also be responsible for software asset and license management, ensuring data integrity within the asset management system, and adhering to security and compliance standards including HIPAA and NIST SP 800-88. This position requires continuous process improvement, stakeholder support, and clear communication. The role is on-site and requires travel between numerous clinic sites across San Diego County.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years in IT asset management, desktop support, or IT operations required.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, ITIL, NIST SP 800-88 media sanitization, and e-waste practices.
  • SOP creation, inventory control, barcode/RFID scanning, cycle counts, reconciliation.
  • Strong understanding of asset lifecycle practices, inventory controls, and audit readiness.
  • Ability to manage cross-functional workflows (IT, project management, security, procurement, finance, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of: Endpoint management: Microsoft AD, SDP, MDM, printer fleet tools.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of: Asset management systems: Workday ERP, Manage Engine, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of: Directory/OS: Windows, iOS/Android; AD fundamentals; BitLocker/File Vault; endpoint security agents, e.g., Sophos.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of: Imaging & deployment: Building and maintaining gold images, drivers, task sequences, and application packaging.
  • Maintains accurate, auditable records; resolves discrepancies quickly.
  • Plans deployments around clinical schedules; communicates clearly with non-technical users.
  • Owns outcomes across lifecycle stages; meets SLAs and compliance requirements.
  • Proposes and implements pragmatic enhancements to workflows and tooling.
  • Collaborates with Service Desk, Engineering, Security, Procurement, and Finance.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must have a car, a valid California driver’s license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law.
  • An acceptable driving record is also required.

  • Exposure to Lean/Six Sigma a plus.

  • Experience with helpdesk, asset management systems, and software license management/true-up in Healthcare IT operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the leadership team to create/submit purchase requests, validate vendor quotes, track orders, and ensure SKUs, models, warranties, and entitlements are captured correctly.
  • Receive shipments, verify quantities/specs based on purchase order, inspect for damage, and log assets with serial numbers into IT asset management and purchasing systems upon receipt.
  • Affix asset tags, log assets into IT asset management system, update location and custody records (department, user), and maintain accurate stock levels for hardware and accessories.
  • Build and apply standard images/profiles, install approved software, and validate device readiness.
  • Coordinate with IT Support and Project Management teams for deployment, capture acceptance, update ownership/custody, and document configuration details in the IT asset management system.
  • Execute device swaps, upgrades, and location moves; maintain “chain of custody” documentation and accurate state.
  • Process used/loaner/retired assets returned from users; assess condition, perform data sanitization per policy, and decide to redeploy/repair/e-waste disposition.
  • Manage compliant disposal with approved vendors; document certificates of destruction and maintain auditable records (including media sanitization logs).
  • Track software entitlements, versions, and allocations; assist with true-ups/renewals.
  • Reclaim licenses from retired devices; prevent over-deployment and ensure compliance with vendors.
  • Maintain application catalogs for standardized imaging/deployment.
  • Maintain high-quality asset records (serial number, model, warranty, custodian, location, status).
  • Reconcile system data (e.g., AD/MDM discovery as needed) with physical counts.
  • Run scheduled audits and cycle counts; resolve discrepancies and stale records proactively.
  • Follow HIPAA policies for safeguarding PHI; ensure devices meet security baselines (disk encryption, endpoint protection).
  • Perform media sanitization aligned with NIST SP 800-88 standards before redeployment/disposal.
  • Support audit requests from Security, Compliance, and Finance with evidence and reports.
  • Document workflows (SOPs, runbooks) and drive improvement.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities.
  • Track and reduce cycle times (order-to-deploy, return-to-redeploy), error rates, and data gaps.
  • Provide status updates to requestors; coordinate schedules with the IT leadership team to minimize disruption.
  • Train Service Desk/Desktop Techs on asset handling procedures.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Finance on budgeting, capex/opex tracking, and cost optimization.
