About The Position

United Airlines is seeking an Application Development Manager to lead the development and implementation of new Airport Operations technology, a key component of its growth strategy. The technology will integrate with systems across the organization. The manager will lead a team focused on digital transformation and provide hands-on leadership in solution architecture, analysis, scalable solution development, Agile practices, and organizational change. The position is responsible for end-to-end application delivery and maintenance, including cloud-based applications, and for managing the application lifecycle from development through deployment and ongoing operations. The manager partners with business and technical stakeholders to prioritize work and align application delivery with strategic business goals, customer experience, loyalty, revenue growth, and operational efficiency. The role also oversees delivery planning, budgets, schedules, quality, vendor relationships, operational performance, and team development. The manager promotes innovation, automation, continuous process improvement, and effective Agile practices. The role ensures solutions comply with architectural, security, operational, and internal control standards, including JSOX, SDLC, change management, production control, incident response, PCI, and PII requirements. The manager also plans staffing, forecasts budgets, and communicates progress to senior IT and business leadership.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Computer Science, or an equivalent field of study.
At least 3 years of application delivery and lifecycle management experience.
Experience with web-based development, .NET, C#, MS SQL, Angular, and AWS development services and technologies.
Understanding of digital platforms, tools, and emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.
Experience overseeing highly critical applications requiring 24/7 operational support, incident management, high availability, and uptime.
Experience managing on-premises web-based applications.
Experience managing cloud-native applications and services, including infrastructure as code, container orchestration, and cloud-based security practices.
A proven track record of ownership and successful delivery.
Ability to prioritize projects and initiatives according to business goals and strategic objectives.
Experience maintaining scalable and reusable tools and technologies.
Experience leading digital transformation initiatives, innovation, and modernization across an application portfolio.
Proficiency managing software development projects and familiarity with Waterfall, Agile, DevOps practices, and software lifecycle management.
Ability to use data analytics to support decision-making and improve digital products and services.
Experience leading and developing high-performing teams and fostering innovation and collaboration.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presenting ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to quickly triage production support situations and drive resolution.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
Successful completion of an interview is required.
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.

Nice To Haves

AWS Developer Associate, Solutions Architect Associate, or higher certification.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end delivery and maintenance of applications, including cloud-based applications.
Manage the application lifecycle from development through deployment and maintenance.
Deliver work requests and projects within committed budgets, schedules, and quality expectations while meeting department performance goals.
Maintain high standards for application performance, reliability, availability, and operational excellence.
Partner with technical and business stakeholders to align application delivery with business processes, customer experience, loyalty, and revenue goals.
Collaborate with business units to prioritize product development and lead key initiatives.
Influence stakeholders to define deliverable priorities and business outcomes, and ensure those outcomes are met.
Coordinate with teams and business constituents to provide daily operational support and seamless application delivery.

Identify technical obstacles, escalate and follow through on delivery issues, and work with teams to resolve them.
Share knowledge and facilitate collaboration to develop innovative solutions and assess emerging technologies and trends.
Refine development processes and promote automation to improve team performance, product quality, and efficiency.
Implement and continuously improve Agile best practices.
Ensure solutions align with architecture and evolving security standards, and manage application changes with minimal business disruption.
Review operational processes against KPIs and use incident and performance data to drive continuous improvement.
Ensure work complies with established processes, JSOX, internal controls, SDLC, change management, production control, architecture review, incident response, PCI, and PII security requirements.
Plan project staffing, forecast budgets, and communicate progress to senior IT and business leadership.
Promote cross-functional skill development across operational practices such as SRE and DevOps and application development.
