About The Position

This position involves performing repair and maintenance on various types of isolation valves and actuators. The role requires a strong understanding of mechanical diagnostics, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to interpret technical documentation and codes. The technician will be responsible for the entire repair process, from initial write-up and disassembly to assembly, testing, and final preparation for shipping. This role also includes performing preventative maintenance on equipment and tools, and upholding customer commitment standards.

Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in valve repair industry
  • TWIC, OSHA Safety, Security Passport
  • Valid State issued driver’s license
  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and verbalize in a professional, organized manner
  • Highly inquisitive about industrial process industry

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair receiving write-up process manually and electronically, including reading MSDS, identifying valves and accessories, translating valve information, and performing data entry in the electronic valve tracking system (GVT).
  • Take digital pictures and electronically transfer them into the ERP system network folder.
  • Safely pretest block valves and actuators per customer request for failure analysis.
  • Safely disassemble and clean various types of valves and parts, including lined plug valves, lubricated plug valves, lined butterfly valves, bolted bonnet gate, globe, and check valves, soft-seated ball valves, pressure seal gate, globe, and check valves.
  • Mark parts correctly and maintain organization and segregation.
  • Perform glass bead and steel shot blasting, chemical solvent cleaning, and use oxy/acetylene torch and bolt-torque equipment.
  • Broaden performance within the disassembly process to include additional valve types such as spring-loaded valves, high performance metal-seated butterfly valves, metal-seated ball valves, Wedgeplug valves, DuPont CL2 bullet valves, API 6D pipeline valves, manual and automated bellowseal globe valves, Coker isolation valves, and various types of actuators.
  • Evaluate parts and maintain material awareness.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of codes such as ASME B16.5, B16.10, B16.34, API 598, 600, 621, Chlorine Institute Pamphlets, HF acid specifications, API 6D and 6DR, and NACE MR0175 or MR0103.
  • Safely and accurately perform machining processes such as polishing stems using a lathe and disking seats with a drill press or pneumatic tools.
  • Safely assemble valves from repair order instructions, customer test-report/specification sheets, GCLA procedures, QSM/QCP manuals, and OEM IOM manuals, including performing the lapping process.
  • Install stem packing and broaden performance within the assembly process to include various valve types and actuators, as well as valves in oxygen, chlorine, phosgene, and HF acid service.
  • Safely test valves according to applicable Code test requirements using compressed air, water, and nitrogen, and accurately complete test reports.
  • Tag, seal, and prepare products for shipping, including priming and painting products while adhering to all safety rules and proper waste disposal.
  • Safely perform final inspection process documenting any findings.
  • Read and record measurements using standard measuring tools such as torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Safely perform preventative maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools, including accurate and timely completion of required documentation.
  • Understand and ensure that JHC TCC (Total Customer Commitment) standards are upheld.
  • Actively and enthusiastically support JHC colleagues.
  • Build and cultivate solid relationships internally and externally.

  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
