About The Position

This position is for a Control Valve Repair Technician Lead with a focus on Mechanical Diagnostics. The role involves performing disassembly, assembly, evaluation, and testing of control valves and regulators. The technician will be responsible for ensuring all work meets quality control standards and customer specifications. This position requires a strong understanding of various valve and actuator types, as well as diagnostic tools and software. The lead technician will also be expected to assist and guide lower-level technicians. Travel within the Gulf Coast region may be required.

Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent
  • A minimum of 7 years in the valve repair industry preferred
  • TWIC, OSHA Safety, Security Passport
  • Valid State-issued driver’s license
  • Knowledge of Machinery fundamentals, including Control Valves, Pneumatic Safety Systems, and Rotary Valves.
  • Ability to read and understand customer data spec sheets for final assembly of control valves and regulators.
  • Knowledge of industrial and residential regulators
  • Knowledge of Oil and Gas and processing plant equipment and processes.
  • Knowledge of various digital positioners and controllers typically used on control valves including, but not limited to Emerson Fisher Products typically used in the oil and gas industry
  • Ability to use basic hand and pneumatic tools confidently and safely.
  • Working as a self-directed field/shop environment worker.
  • Read and record measurements using standard measuring tools such as manual torque wrenches, dial calipers, Vernier calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, tape measure, and scale.
  • Accurately perform final inspections for work completed by level I and level II techs.
  • Ability and willingness to assist level I and II techs through the assembly build process

Responsibilities

  • Perform disassembly and assembly of control valves, including reading sales orders, identifying valves and accessories, performing visual inspections, and initiating system changes.
  • Take digital pictures of assemblies and transfer them to the ERP system.
  • Safely disassemble various types of valves such as sliding stem, rotary ball, rotary butterfly, high performance rotary butterfly, bolted bonnet gate, globe, check, and soft-seated ball valves.
  • Safely disassemble various types of actuators including double acting pneumatic sliding stem piston, double acting pneumatic rotary piston, single acting sliding stem spring and diaphragm, and single acting rotary spring and diaphragm actuators.
  • Evaluate parts, maintain material awareness, mark parts correctly, and perform chemical solvent cleaning when needed.
  • Inspect parts for assembly, ensuring critical dimension requirements are met.
  • Identify and utilize manufacturers’ nomenclature (literature, IOM, inspection criteria, part numbers, model numbers).
  • Identify materials using approved PMI method, alloy analyzer, material markings, material standards, and complete reports.
  • Complete all quality control sheets.
  • Understand and comply with all special requirements for assembly, factories, and customer requirements.
  • Safely and accurately perform machining processes such as using a drill press or pneumatic tools for drilling and pinning stems, and using a hand grinder for polishing.
  • Safely assemble control valves from repair order instructions, customer test-report/specification sheets, and OEM IOM manuals, including calibration of positioners and controllers.
  • Install stem packing, attach actuators to valves, set correct valve travel, and set correct bench set on actuators.
  • Accurately and efficiently tube up positioners and controllers to the actuator and accessories.
  • Safely test control valves according to applicable Code test requirements using compressed air, water, and nitrogen, and complete test reports.
  • Safely and accurately tube up, calibrate, and troubleshoot various pneumatic and digital positioners and controllers.
  • Perform all calibration procedures for full Valvelink signatures required for digital positioners.
  • Generate all reports and graphs associated with valve signatures for digital valve controllers.
  • Read and analyze all reports and graphs related to tests performed using Valvelink software.
  • Troubleshoot and remedy any problems or errors encountered during the valve scan process.
  • Perform complete final inspection once valve assembly has been completed, including testing and reports.
  • Operate 475 and TREX handheld communicators.
  • Perform disassembly and assembly of new regulators and relief valves, including direct operated and pilot operated types.
  • Read, interpret, and respond to sales order and customer data sheet information for regulators and relief valves.
  • Understand and explain the purpose and functions of regulators and relief valves.
  • Safely and accurately perform spring, orifice, and body changes to various types of regulators and relief valves.
  • Safely and accurately test all regulators and relief valves.
  • Safely and accurately set regulators and relief valves to desired set points.
  • Ensure JHC TCC (Total Customer Commitment) standards are upheld.
  • Actively support JHC colleagues.
  • Build and cultivate solid relationships internally and externally.
  • Travel when required and applicable.
