About The Position

The Isolation Valve Repair Technician will perform a variety of tasks related to the repair and maintenance of isolation valves. This includes detailed write-ups of repair processes, disassembly, cleaning, machining, assembly, testing, and final inspection of various valve types and their associated actuators. The role requires a strong understanding of mechanical diagnostics, adherence to safety protocols, and accurate documentation. The position involves working with different types of valves, including those used in specialized services like oxygen, chlorine, phosgene, and HF acid. The technician will also be responsible for preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles, and ensuring customer satisfaction through Total Customer Commitment (TCC) standards. This role has three levels of progression based on knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair receiving write-up process manually and electronically.
  • Read, interpret, and respond to MSDS information.
  • Identify valves and accessories and translate valve information from tag to write-up form.
  • Perform data entry in the electronic valve tracking system (GVT), including status updates and history searches.
  • Take digital pictures and electronically transfer them into the ERP system network folder.
  • Safely pretest block valves and actuators for failure analysis.
  • Safely disassemble and clean valves and parts, including various types of lined plug valves, lubricated plug valves, lined butterfly valves, bolted bonnet gate, globe, and check valves, soft-seated ball valves, and pressure seal gate, globe, and check valves.
  • Mark parts correctly and maintain organization and segregation.
  • Perform glass bead and steel shot blasting, understanding limitations.
  • Perform chemical solvent cleaning.
  • Use oxy/acetylene torch, bolt-torque equipment, and high-pressure packing extractor.
  • Disassemble additional valve types such as spring-loaded valves, atmospheric type valves, high performance metal-seated butterfly valves, metal-seated ball valves, Wedgeplug valves, DuPont CL2 bullet valves, API 6D pipeline valves, manual and automated bellowseal globe valves, coker isolation valves, and various actuators.
  • Evaluate parts and maintain material awareness.
  • Maintain and apply Code knowledge such as ASME B16.5, B16.10 and B16.34, API 598, 600, and 621, applicable Chlorine Institute Pamphlets, HF acid specifications, API 6D and 6DR, and NACE MR0175 or MR0103.
  • Safely and accurately perform machining processes, including polishing stems using a lathe and using a drill press or pneumatic tools for disking seats.
  • Safely assemble valves from repair order instructions, customer test-report/specification sheets, GCLA procedures, QSM/QCP manuals, and OEM IOM manuals, including performing the lapping process.
  • Install stem packing.
  • Assemble various valve types and actuators.
  • Disc and fit gate valves in the shop and the field.
  • Safely test valves according to applicable Code test requirements using compressed air, water, and nitrogen, and equipment such as the block valve test stand and hydrostatic pumps.
  • Accurately and thoroughly complete test reports.
  • Tag, seal, and prepare products for shipping, including priming and painting products while adhering to all safety rules.
  • Safely perform final inspection process, documenting any findings.
  • Read and record measurements using standard measuring tools.
  • Safely perform preventative maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools, including accurate and timely completion of required documentation and reporting.
  • Ensure JHC TCC (Total Customer Commitment) standards are upheld.
  • Actively and enthusiastically support JHC colleagues.
  • Build and cultivate solid relationships internally and externally.
  • Travel when required and applicable.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Drive a company-owned vehicle meeting specified criteria and following all policies.
