About The Position

The Irrigation Technician II will perform general upkeep and cleaning of public spaces in downtown Greeley and landscape maintenance including planting, installing pavers, installing trash receptacles and benches, mowing, watering, pruning, weed control, and facility / equipment repairs. The successful candidate will bring the ability to operate a variety of motorized equipment and hand and power tools. The Technicians may oversee projects if Equipment Operator II and III are absent from the work site(s).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of irrigation experience.
  • Class A or B Commercial Driver's license or the ability to obtain within (6) months.
  • Flagger Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of operating hand and power tools, light trucks, tractors used in public space maintenance.
  • Knowledge and experience in the upkeep of public spaces including landscaping knowledge and sprinkler systems.
  • Basic math skills to install and maintain irrigation systems.
  • Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), Baseline, Cityworks, and the ability to learn and experiment with new software and systems.
  • Ability to solve a variety of problems in situations where there are substantially diversified procedures, specialized standards, and only limited standardization, and have the decision-making ability to achieve the required job results while adhering to specified, acceptable standards, alternatives, and technical practices.
  • Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.

  • Adequate visual acuity to read instruments, inspect work areas and monitor traffic and jobsite conditions.
  • Ability to monitor surroundings and equipment operation.
  • Ability to hear warning signals, verbal instructions, and equipment sounds in noisy environments.
  • Ability to maintain DOT Medical Certificate

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Specialized training beyond high school or related experience in equipment maintenance or basic mechanics.
  • Previous team leader or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, repairs, troubleshoots, and maintains irrigation systems and associated infrastructure, including controllers, valves, heads, and backflow devices.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on irrigation systems serving parks, medians, landscaped areas, and other City-owned properties.
  • Performs landscape maintenance activities including planting, mowing, pruning, watering, weed control, and maintenance of public spaces and amenities.
  • Installs and maintains public infrastructure, including pavers, trash receptacles, benches, and signage.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment, hand tools, and power tools in support of assigned duties.
  • Conducts inspections of irrigation systems, public infrastructure, and equipment and performs minor equipment maintenance.
  • Safely applies pesticides, herbicides, and other chemical agents in accordance with applicable regulations and safety standards.
  • Maintains records related to irrigation repairs, maintenance activities, and inspections.
  • Assists with setup and teardown activities for special events and City-sponsored functions as assigned.
  • Performs snow and ice mitigation activities and participates in an on-call rotation as required.
  • Provides lead work direction to seasonal staff and may oversee small projects or assignments.
  • Follows established safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
