About The Position

The City of Springfield is seeking to fill a Public Works Technician position to perform tasks to maintain streets, sanitary sewer systems, surface and subsurface storm drainage systems, street signs and surface markings, equipment, and landscaped areas. Technicians drive and operate equipment and vehicles. The Operations Division provides an inhouse training program tailored for public works maintenance employees. Training includes vehicle and equipment operating, a curriculum designed for maintaining public infrastructure, and a great team to learn with. The Operations Division has a wide variety of vehicles and equipment ranging from dump trucks, backhoes, street sweepers, combination vacuum/jet trucks, hydro jet trucks, paving machine and much more.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s license at time of appointment
  • Oregon Commercial Learner's Permit must be obtained within 6 months of appointment (City provided training)
  • Oregon Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B and endorsements must be obtained within one year of appointment (City provided training)
  • Minimum of three years of specialized experience related to public works and equipment (for Public Works Technician II)
  • Ability to lift objects that could weigh a maximum of 80 pounds.
  • Employees with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) are subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.
