About The Position

The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is seeking an Investment Risk Modelling Co-op Student/Intern for the Fall 2026 (September - December) work term to support the Investment Strategy & Risk team. BCI manages a globally diversified portfolio of gross assets valued at $295 billion and is one of Canada’s largest institutional investors. This role is an opportunity for a highly motivated team player interested in developing their professional career and learning more about driving sustainable growth, accelerating innovation, and operating on a global scale. The Investment Strategy & Risk (ISR) department plays a key role in setting, implementing, and monitoring the long-term strategies of BCI’s clients. Investment Risk includes the maintenance of systems for monitoring, measuring, and estimating various forms of relevant investment risks across different asset classes and aggregating that risk at a total fund level.

Requirements

  • University Degree with courses offering strong foundations in financial risk management and investment management
  • Familiarity with Python, Bloomberg, SQL and VBA
  • Working knowledge of AI tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot) and ability to apply them to data analysis, automation and reporting tasks
  • Fundamental knowledge of basic business and investment related disciplines is essential
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong relationship-building ability, proactive, results oriented, and resourceful
  • Ability to meet deadlines by delivering with excellent product quality and attention to detail
  • Have a passion for investment management, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country where the job is located. Work permit, study permit, or visa restrictions may affect eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Support the monitoring of day-to-day operations regarding market and counterparty risks
  • Assist in the risk management oversight by preparing relevant reports, analyses, and tools to measure risk
  • Take part in developing risk-reporting templates and leverage AI tools to enhance data visualization and build dynamic, interactive reports
  • Document new processes and update the manuals
  • Take on ad-hoc projects using Python and Power BI and apply AI tools to automate repetitive tasks and streamline risk-reporting processes

  • Competitive pay: $2,330.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary
