About The Position

The Inventory Specialist for Expendable (EX) and Non-Expendable (NX) Assets is responsible for maintaining accountability for all equipment and assets throughout their lifecycle, in accordance with VA policy and federal property management regulations. This role involves managing and controlling assigned classes of EX material, serving as a subject matter expert, and acting as a central point of contact for commodity support and logistics problem resolution. The specialist will analyze data, apply inventory principles, recommend product changes, and forecast inventory needs. For NX assets, the role includes planning for new and replacement assets, analyzing lifecycle data, participating in strategic planning for projects, conducting data analysis for acquisition planning, using automated property management systems, identifying and resolving asset management issues, ensuring equipment accountability through inspections, managing inventory transactions, creating Reports of Survey (ROS) for lost, damaged, or stolen property, and resolving inventory problems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Four Years Experience in asset management, inventory control, or property management preferred.
  • Familiarity with federal property management regulations and automated inventory systems.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and control assigned classes of EX material for the VA Healthcare System and supported catchment area.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on EX commodity management and provide guidance to all services and service lines.
  • Act as a central point of contact for commodity support and resolution of logistics problems across organizational lines.
  • Analyze data including demand history, program requirements, operations, procurement lead-time, current stock levels, and other factors.
  • Apply inventory principles and methodologies to determine interventions in the supply system in response to usage rates, cost, availability, and alternative sources.
  • Engage customers proactively to recommend product changes, substitutions, and additions to increase supply economy and efficiency.
  • Forecast short and long-range inventory needs considering changes in medical technologies, clinical scheduling, and program requirements.
  • Participate in strategic planning for major and minor projects and initiatives, ensuring supply needs are met while considering cost, policies, sources of supply, and other variables.
  • Conduct short, mid, and long-term planning for new and replacement NX assets using enterprise-wide computerized planning tools.
  • Analyze data including lifecycle projections, downtime, repair rates, lost workload, cost, depreciation, trade-in value, and other factors impacting procurement decisions.
  • Participate in strategic planning for major and minor construction projects, facility activations, and space reuse involving multi-million dollar projects.
  • Conduct data and information analysis for acquisition planning related to materials and capital equipment.
  • Use automated property management systems to manage facility property accountability, create equipment records, research discrepancies, conduct inventories, barcode equipment, and manage excess property.
  • Identify and resolve asset management issues with other services, VISN-level staff, or support contractors.
  • Ensure equipment accountability at each service line through monthly inspection programs.
  • Manage and control all inventory transactions for NX medical equipment requests and transactions.
  • Create Reports of Survey (ROS) for lost, damaged, or stolen property.
  • Resolve inventory problems requiring extensive research of receipts, issues, surveys, and other resources.
