Inventory Control Manager

Mill Creek Community Church•Fenton, MI

About The Position

The Inventory Control Manager builds and leads Miller Industries’ companywide inventory-control operating system. This hands-on leadership role will move the organization from fragmented practices and limited inventory visibility to disciplined, repeatable, and measurable control of material across manufacturing plants, warehouses, storage areas, and distribution locations. Reporting to the Senior Materials Manager, the manager establishes inventory policies, procedures, work instructions, system requirements, physical controls, scanning and identification methods, audit routines, cycle-count governance, transaction standards, and accountability for inventory accuracy. The role ensures that material movements are recorded correctly both physically and in the company’s ERP and supporting inventory systems. Working across Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Shipping and Receiving, Scheduling, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and Information Technology, the manager develops a consistent approach to material identification, location control, storage, movement, consumption, transfer, reconciliation, and reporting. Success requires visible floor leadership, strong system discipline, practical process design, change leadership, and the ability to build a sustainable inventory-control function from the ground up.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing development of a companywide inventory-control system covering raw material, purchased components, work-in-process, finished goods, service parts, excess material, and other controlled inventory.
  • Assess current inventory practices, identify control gaps, and establish a prioritized implementation roadmap by location, material type, and business risk.
  • Define the future-state inventory operating model, including ownership, decision rights, escalation paths, location structure, transaction requirements, reporting, and management routines.
  • Build scalable processes that support engineered-to-order and project-based manufacturing while maintaining part, job, unit, and location traceability.
  • Partner with Information Technology and system users to improve ERP inventory functionality, master data, system controls, reporting, integrations, and user adoption.
  • Lead selection and implementation of practical inventory technology such as barcode labels, handheld scanners, mobile transactions, printers, identification standards, and warehouse-system capabilities.
  • Ensure system design and physical process design remain aligned so inventory records accurately reflect actual material conditions and locations.
  • Develop, document, implement, and maintain inventory-control policies, standard operating procedures, work instructions, process maps, forms, roles, and training requirements.
  • Establish controlled standards for receiving, identification, labeling, put-away, storage, staging, kitting, material issue, consumption, transfer, return, reallocation, substitution, scrap, quarantine, adjustment, and shipment.
  • Define approval requirements and segregation of duties for inventory adjustments, write-offs, reclassifications, transfers, and other high-risk transactions.
  • Create clear standards for floor inventory, point-of-use material, temporary staging, outside storage, nonconforming material, customer-owned material, and supplier-managed inventory where applicable.
  • Establish document-control and change-management practices so inventory procedures remain current, approved, understood, and consistently followed across locations.
  • Develop training materials and qualification expectations for employees who receive, move, transact, count, stage, issue, or otherwise handle inventory.
