The Interventional Radiology (IR) Physician provides on-site, high-quality diagnostic and minimally invasive image-guided procedures in accordance with established clinical standards. Services are delivered in a VA medical center setting and must meet or exceed national standards of care, including those established by the American College of Radiology (ACR), The Joint Commission (TJC), and other governing bodies. The role involves providing on-site coverage during standard operating hours, typically Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., CT, and participating in on-call coverage for urgent cases. The physician will ensure continuity of care, including coverage during absences or staffing gaps. Key responsibilities include performing a full range of interventional radiology procedures, providing timely patient care, reviewing consults and cases, conducting pre-procedure assessments, intra-procedural care, and post-procedure follow-up. Communication of test results and treatment plans to referring providers and patients, as well as coordinating follow-up care, are essential. The role also involves providing expert consultation to referring physicians, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and determining appropriate treatment courses. Administrative duties include participating in Quality Assurance (QA) and Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives, attending required meetings, performing peer reviews, and completing clinical documentation. Patient safety and compliance are paramount, requiring adherence to infection control, patient safety, and medication management protocols, reporting patient safety incidents, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, and VA confidentiality requirements.
