About The Position

We are currently looking for a InterSystems IRIS Developer for a 100% remote position supporting a large federal government healthcare modernization project. This role supports the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Data Migration and Management (DMM) Support Services for Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM), developing and sustaining InterSystems IRIS/Caché and ObjectScript solutions supporting VX130 and related DMM applications. The developer will focus on enterprise data migration, transformation, validation, system integration, and modernization of solutions used to migrate VistA data to Oracle Health. This position works within a collaborative Agile/DevOps environment alongside architects, analysts, data-quality teams, infrastructure engineers, VA stakeholders, Oracle Health, and other contractors. The role is fully remote and includes support for production deployments, upgrades, incident resolution, sustainment activities, and occasional after-hours activities when required for program continuity. The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, with 5+ years of experience developing enterprise applications using InterSystems Caché and/or InterSystems IRIS.
  • 3+ years of hands-on ObjectScript development experience, including strong knowledge of IRIS classes, globals, SQL, relational database concepts, and data-access patterns.
  • Experience designing and implementing REST APIs, web services, system integrations, and enterprise data-processing solutions.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex software applications, databases, and data-processing workflows in production environments, including automated testing, code review, version control, Agile development, and DevOps/CI/CD practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and develop secure, readable, maintainable, and well-structured solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work independently while partnering effectively across engineering, operations, data, and customer teams.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • All selected candidates must successfully complete a background check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance, including required fingerprinting, when required for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with healthcare interoperability and data formats such as HL7, XML, JSON, and REST services, Oracle Health/Cerner integrations, EHR data migration initiatives, or other VA/federal healthcare environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, enhance, test, deploy, and sustain enterprise applications using InterSystems IRIS/Caché and ObjectScript, including VX130 data extraction, aggregation, transformation, validation, and transmission processes supporting VistA data migration to Oracle Health.
  • Analyze VistA data structures, FileMan files, globals, metadata, and existing application logic to design reliable enhancements, troubleshoot complex issues, and develop database classes, tables, routines, queries, system services, and automation solutions.
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs, web services, and system integrations using approved VA technologies and patterns, while supporting healthcare data formats and interoperability requirements.
  • Perform unit, functional, integration, and performance testing; troubleshoot application, database, and data-processing defects; optimize system performance; and support IRIS Mirror, high-availability, backup/recovery, and production sustainment environments.
  • Develop maintainable and secure code that meets VA software-quality standards, participate in code reviews, maintain technical documentation and design artifacts, and support version control and CI/CD practices using GitHub, Azure DevOps, and related engineering tooling.
  • Support production deployments, upgrades, incident resolution, platform modernization, containerization, automation, and observability efforts while collaborating across engineering, operations, data, customer, and contractor teams.
