About The Position

The Seattle Municipal Court (SMC) is seeking a temporary, part-time Interpreter Services Administrative Specialist to support its Interpreter Services department. This role is responsible for scheduling interpreters for Limited English Proficient (LEP) or hearing-impaired participants in judicial proceedings. The specialist will assist in scheduling interpreters for various court functions, including hearings, trials, Customer Services, Day Reporting, Probation, and attorney-client interviews. This is a part-time position (20-30 hours per week) expected to last until August 2027, with potential support for other areas of the Court's Operations Department. The work is expected to be performed in person.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of office clerical support experience (or a combination of education, training, and/or experience which provides evidence of the ability to perform work of the class).
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to accurately navigate and update databases.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and language abilities.
  • Ability to stay organized and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Able to exercise discretion and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

  • Ability to work effectively with and serve interpreters, court personnel, attorneys, and investigators.

  • Highly organized with the ability to plan and coordinate complex schedules and handle multiple deadlines.
  • Capacity to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Experience updating and navigating databases and an aptitude for learning new systems.
  • Washington State registered or certified court interpreter.

Responsibilities

  • Process Requests: Organize and prioritize interpreter requests, complete online request forms, respond to same-day requests and changes, and contact interpreters for scheduling.
  • Schedule Interpreters: Arrange assignments using the AOC list of credentialed interpreters, review qualifications of non-credentialed interpreters, verify interpreter clearance for jail interviews, communicate interpreter availability to the court, contact interpreters for assignments, document calendar changes, and monitor outstanding requests.
  • Provide Clerical Support: Answer phones, advise interpreters of immediate needs, respond to email requests, file and enter interpreter invoices, assist with conference/video calls, maintain supplies, maintain interpreter equipment, bring recommendations to the Interpreter Services Strategic Advisor, review incoming mail, and perform other related duties.
