About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking an Internal Medicine Physician to join the team at Sechelt Hospital on the beautiful lower Sunshine Coast. This is a permanent, Fee-for-Service position. The Sunshine Coast offers a rural setting with easy access to outdoor activities and is a short ferry ride from West Vancouver. Sechelt Hospital is a modern facility with an updated ambulatory care unit and a four-bed critical care unit. The current internists provide inpatient and outpatient consultations, exercise stress testing, spirometry, and ECG reporting, and hold teaching appointments through UBC. Call is currently Level 1 with a 1:4 rotation. The ideal candidate will have experience in an acute-care setting, expertise with a diverse patient population in a busy community hospital, and uphold high professional standards with strong clinical skills. A focus on quality improvement, system improvements, infection control, and antibiotic stewardship is important. The existing team has strong group dynamics, a positive work ethic, and a congenial culture. While full-time applicants are preferred, qualified part-time candidates will be considered. Requirements

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Mandatory
  • Current College of Physicians of Canada (CPSBC) - Full
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory
  • Eligible for Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Experience working in an acute-care setting.
  • Expertise caring for a diverse patient population in a busy community hospital.
  • High professional standards and competence.
  • Strong clinical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations.
  • Perform exercise stress testing.
  • Conduct spirometry.
  • Report on ECGs.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to system improvements.
  • Engage in infection control practices.
  • Participate in antibiotic stewardship programs.
