Internal Communications Manager (12-month contract)
About The Position
We are looking for a strategic communicator, trusted advisor, and strong storyteller to join our Internal Communications team on a 12-month maternity leave coverage contract. In this role, you'll help shape how employees experience Securian Canada. You'll work closely with leaders and stakeholders across the organization to deliver clear, engaging, and meaningful communications that connect employees to our strategy, culture, and purpose. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys building relationships, managing multiple priorities, and turning complex information into communications that inform, inspire, and drive action. You'll have a high degree of autonomy, broad organizational visibility, and the opportunity to influence employee experience across the company. This role follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation of working from our Toronto or Waterloo office twice a month. The expected base salary for this role is between $80,000 – $110,000 CAD per year, depending on experience. This posting is for an existing vacancy. We use artificial intelligence tools in our recruitment process to help with application review and improve the efficiency of our assessments. These tools are used responsibly and do not replace human decision-making, as we continue to manually review all applications.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to make complex ideas easy to understand.
- Experience developing and executing communication plans for a variety of audiences and stakeholders.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent organization and project management abilities, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A consultative mindset with the confidence to advise leaders and recommend communication solutions.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
- Experience in internal communications.
Nice To Haves
- Communications consulting or advisory experience.
- Experience supporting organizational change or change management initiatives.
- Experience partnering with Human Resources or employee experience teams.
- Experience in financial services, insurance, or another regulated industry.
- Familiarity with employee communication platforms, intranet tools, or communication analytics.
Responsibilities
- Partner with leaders and stakeholders across the organization to develop and execute communication strategies that support business priorities and employee engagement.
- Create clear, compelling communications across multiple channels, including newsletters, email campaigns, intranet content, leadership messages, and town halls.
- Translate complex business updates and organizational initiatives into meaningful and actionable messages for employees.
- Provide communications counsel and support to leaders, helping them communicate confidently and effectively.
- Manage multiple communications projects simultaneously, balancing priorities, timelines, and stakeholder needs.
- Measure communication effectiveness, gather feedback, and recommend improvements that enhance employee understanding and engagement.
- Help bring our culture to life through storytelling that highlights our people, achievements, and impact.
