Internal Communications Manager, Product

Anthropic•San Francisco, CA
•$265,000 - $295,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Anthropic is seeking an Internal Communications Manager to serve as a dedicated communications partner to its Product organization. The role operates as an embedded advisor to the organization: learning its work deeply, earning the trust of leaders, writing on behalf of executives, anticipating communications needs, and helping employees understand how Product’s work connects to Anthropic’s mission. It includes traditional internal communications work such as all-hands planning and organizational change announcements, but emphasizes creative ways to connect employees with consequential work that may otherwise be difficult to see. Product connects model capabilities with customers’ current needs. As capabilities improve, priorities shift and launches may come together quickly, making it challenging for employees across the company to keep up with what is shipping, what is changing, and why it matters. The Internal Communications Manager will understand the work and the people doing it well enough to tell its story credibly and help leaders communicate clearly and candidly as the company scales.

Requirements

  • Have 8–12 years of experience in communications or an adjacent field involving making complex, high-stakes material clear under pressure.
  • Be an exceptional writer who can distill technical decisions and cross-functional projects into simple, compelling narratives and write convincingly in another person's voice.
  • Have served as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and know how to build those relationships, when to push or listen, and how to deliver recommendations that may be unwelcome.
  • Be able to embed credibly with engineers, product managers, and researchers; show curiosity about technical systems, ask good questions, and earn the trust of people who may be skeptical of communications.
  • See the big picture and connect individual team updates to company strategy and mission.
  • Have a keen eye for organizational culture and recognize authentic moments worth amplifying.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • A field of study relevant to the role, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience communicating about product, engineering, security, infrastructure, or other technical domains.
  • Experience at AI companies, frontier technology companies, or organizations where technical work moves faster than most people can follow.
  • Experience building or running internal communications programs during periods of rapid organizational growth.

Responsibilities

  • Own the internal communications strategy for the portfolio, become an expert in the team's work, and serve as a trusted member of its leadership team.
  • Advise executives on what to say and when, draft communications in their voice, and provide honest counsel, including in challenging or uncomfortable situations.
  • Translate deeply technical work into narratives that resonate with employees across functions without losing substance.
  • Find creative ways to connect people to the work, choosing formats such as demos when they are more effective than slide decks.
  • Anticipate communications needs around launches, incidents, organizational change, and external attention, and prepare plans to bring employees along.
  • Design and implement strategies that boost signal and reduce noise so employees understand what is important and what it means for them.
  • Plan and execute internal forums such as all-hands meetings and AMAs with operational excellence.
  • Exercise sound judgment with sensitive material, especially when security work requires care about what is shared, with whom, and when.
  • Partner with the broader internal communications team to ensure updates are accurately and consistently cascaded across existing channels and live forums.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Optional equity donation matching.
  • Generous vacation and parental leave.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Office space for collaboration.
