About The Position

Austin Industries is seeking interns for its 2027 Summer Internal Audit Internship Program. This paid, full-time, 12-week program offers exposure to various aspects of the construction industry through collaboration with accounting teams at different operating divisions. Interns will gain hands-on experience assisting with ongoing audits and performing risk-based testing to review internal controls and management assertions. The program has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Internship Programs. Interns will report to the corporate headquarters in Dallas, TX, and participate in social and volunteer events, with opportunities to visit active project sites.

Requirements

  • Must be an active junior or senior college student working toward a bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with a concentration in auditing.
  • Targeted graduation date between December 2027 and December 2028.
  • Must be able to work up to 40 hours per week.
  • Must be able to commute onsite to assigned location.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to think analytically, present ideas professionally, and work in project teams.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States.
  • Austin Industries is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Gain hands-on experience supporting internal audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews across business operations.
  • Learn how internal controls help safeguard company assets, improve processes, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with data analysis, audit testing, documentation review, and reporting activities.
  • Collaborate with finance, operations, and business leaders to understand how audit supports organizational objectives.
  • Receive mentorship from experienced audit professionals while exploring career paths in internal audit, accounting, risk management, and corporate governance.
  • Assist with complex audits of major construction and maintenance projects throughout the organization to assess effectiveness of management’s processes and compliance with established policy.
  • Assigned audit program sections for completion.
  • Develop workpapers and logically display detailed testing attributes.
  • Perform interviews, document interview results, update workpapers and audit program steps, and conclude on control assessments.
  • Meet with project personnel at job sites to complete assigned work.
  • Tour job sites and analyze construction performance.
