The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is a nonpartisan organization that advances the transatlantic partnership to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. With headquarters in Washington, DC; offices in Berlin, Brussels, Paris, Warsaw, Belgrade, Bucharest, and Ankara; representations in London and Madrid; and more than 140 experts and fellows worldwide, GMF is a hub for policy innovation, convening, and leadership development. GMF’s work focuses on three priorities: strengthening transatlantic security, advancing economic and technological competitiveness, and adapting to a shifting global landscape. Pillar Summary: To meet the opportunities and challenges presented by a changing global landscape, the transatlantic partnership must adopt bold new ideas and take deliberate action. This GMF pillar analyzes the impact of global power shifts on the transatlantic partnership; develops targeted strategies that enable the United States and Europe to navigate those shifts; and forges closer links among the United States, Europe, and third partners in the Indo-Pacific, Middle East, and other regions. Core offerings include quick-reaction analyses, original research, strategic convenings, scenario exercises, leadership development programs, and on-the-ground partnerships. The Global Power Shifts pillar also integrates and elevates the expertise and work of GMF’s Indo-Pacific, South and Wider Europe, and Strategic Foresight teams while anchoring cross-cutting initiatives. Program Summary: The Strategic Foresight experts provide policymakers and business leaders with three complementary assets for analysis and strategic planning: 1. A better understanding of the strategic environment, by providing rapid and informed analyses of strategic disruptions, as well as the tools to optimize approaches to crisis management. 2. The capacity to think proactively to stay ahead of emerging risks, anticipate long-term trends, and develop instruments to manage these risks and mitigate their impact. 3. The incorporation of geopolitical and geo economic risks into long-term strategies and planning. The Strategic Foresight experts manage policy projects and contribute to the strategic debates on both sides of the Atlantic. The program also conducts foresight projects, anticipating risks and opportunities to help policymakers, business leaders and other opinion shapers better understand political, geopolitical and economic shifts, and their implications for their decision-making processes. GMF Strategic Foresight delivers a monthly newsletter that offers in-depth analysis of geostrategic and geo-economic risks. Distributed to corporate and public-sector partners, this intelligence snapshot provides a forward-looking, high-level assessment of the key geopolitical challenges and opportunities anticipated in the next month. The newsletter features expert insights from Strategic Foresight fellows alongside a curated overview of recent and upcoming GMF publications and initiatives.
