About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Noninvasive Prenatal Diagnostics Intern to join our Research and Development Team located in San Diego, CA! This is an 11-week paid internship program focused on developing cutting-edge noninvasive prenatal diagnostic tests. Interns will gain real-world experience, work on impactful projects, and support Labcorp's mission to improve health and improve lives. The role involves developing technical skills, analyzing data, and contributing to the development and improvement of laboratory tests for various diagnostic purposes, with a primary focus on cell-free DNA for non-invasive prenatal screening. The program offers enterprise-wide learning experiences, leadership exposure, networking opportunities, professional development sessions, and dedicated mentoring.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Systems Biology, Biochemistry or Biomedical Engineering
  • Eagerness to learn new laboratory skills and scientific concepts
  • Show initiative and the ability to work independently under general supervision
  • Have a genuine interest in laboratory science
  • Maintains professionalism, including punctuality and appropriate conduct
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Actively participates in training sessions and applies newly learned skills accordingly
  • Good laboratory practice and documentation.
  • Embraces diverse ways of thinking through various forms of collaboration and partnership.
  • Engage in professional development workshops to enhance your business acumen and professional presence.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-6 months experience working with nucleic acids, proteins, and PCR
  • 3-6 months experience and/or knowledge of next-generation sequencing technology
  • Preferred candidates are rising juniors and seniors (Dec 2027 through June 2029 graduation) who are currently enrolled in a relevant degree program; however, all current students pursuing related studies are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cutting edge noninvasive prenatal diagnostic tests.
  • Become familiar with statistical programs to analyze and visualize data.
  • Extract valuable insights for informed decision making.
  • Develop a wide variety of technical skills, potentially including multiplex PCR, digital PCR, mass spectrometry, short and/or long-read sequencing.
